I had no help anywhere (admittedly, I didn't want to go to Brown, Cornell, or Dartmouth) with a pre-supershoes 9:10 not even 4 years ago. My GPA was also perfect and I had a 1580. I ended up getting into one without the coach's help
A lot of schools post high level recruiting standards to avoid being swamped with interest. I remember UC Davis had a 5:00 mile women's walk on time advertised, yet it wasn't a great program, and there was only one athlete there who had ran that time in high school, so you knew it was wrong (I'm not even sure Kim Conley, their all-time star, hit that time in highschool).
A better way to gauge times is to look at the results of their meets. If you are currently running faster than some of the team consistently, they will reply to your inquiry.
