My School is forcing me to Quit running?

I'm a junior in high school and have recently been put in a very tough position when it comes to my future in running. For context, I am an all-state golfer being recruited to play high-D1 golf in college (ACC, B1G, SEC). I recently started running and fell in love with it, and I am now near the top of my school's all-time 1600- and 3200-meter lists. I'm putting in 40–50 miles a week right now, preparing for this upcoming track season. Where I hoped to break into the sub-4:30s/9:40s range. With me having not even entered my junior track season and consistently putting up times in the 4:35 area during indoor this winter, I have gathered a bit of college interest. Obviously, nothing crazy, but a few top D2 programs and some smaller D1 programs as well. I planned on pursuing golf while running outside of practices so I could continue both. I was called down during school to my athletic director's office. I walk into a room with my athletic director, my personal running coach, my golf coach, my assistant golf coach, my head track coach, my head XC coach, and my assistant track and XC coach. They cut straight to the point; I can't do both. I go to a smaller school that, in the past, has allowed students to double up on sports and may even encourage them to do so. But for some reason, I'm different? The golf coach started by saying, "I understand you started running after the golf season ended last year and have become quite successful... But if you want to continue being a top-level golfer, you need to drop running completely. My track and running coach said the same thing. "You have a ton of potential in running. We can help you get to the next level if you commit 100% to us. No distractions!" You had success this winter, approaching the school record in both the mile and the 2-mile. If you want to compete in college, you need to pick a route and stick with it." I have no idea what to do. I've been golfing since I was 8 and have worked countless hours to get to the level I was competing at; I won my club championships at 16 years old, I won my regional meet by 6 strokes, and I was 3rd in the state as a freshman. But I've been running since I was 7; though I've only recently started pursuing that, I've already seen huge improvements. I've been training for the past 5 months for track, so at the moment I'm all in on running. I'm worried if I make this decision based off where I stand right now, which would likley be running, I may end up regretting it. My recent success has undoubtedly contributed to my love of running. If I stick with it, will I regret my decision?

1) A lot of the hot rich businesses executives daughters like to hang out at my local cross country course. Because I was kind of a big deal I had my pick on who I dated (and ultimately married). You wouldn’t find anything like that at the local country club.
2) I was a pro runner for a little while. I wasn’t a super star… but I was in the top 100 track athletes in the world. I made way more money doing this than I ever would have had I been the 100th best golfer in the world.
3) I went into finance after my running career ended. I have closed many business deals at half-marathons. Who ever heard of anyone closing a deal on a golf course.
4) I have never been injured running. Golfers are always getting hurt.

When I was in HS, golf was in the fall so only conflicted w XC. I played golf in the fall and then ran winter track and (spring) track. In college, I chose to run XC over golf because golf took too much time.

in HS though, the golf coach also was the track coach, so no issues with him.

Ready to lobotomize a significant portion of the way you express yourself physically because they want to tie their ego to a star so bad

Let's be real, they wouldn't give two fks if you were mediocre

While it may be true there are times in life we have no choice but to choose between two paths, this would not be one of them without a bunch of egos creating the situation artificially

The problem as I see it is everyone involved in the school admin and athletic dept that is on board with this has forever lost a certain amount of trust and respect from you

It's really a shame when supposed educators get in the way of another person's momentum in life

An educators duty is to lift up those they are charged with, not suppress them
