Having been bitten and/or clawed hard enough to draw blood three times now while on a run, any dog that makes any move at all towards me is going to be met by a kick or worse. Keep your "dopey, happy" dogs under control on leash and well away from me.

Some advice you probably won’t take: STOP running, turn towards the dog, stand assertively and command it to go home or away or get your swears out. To be nipped that often I’d find it hard to believe you aren’t letting them chase you.
You may have a slower mile split, but your day won’t be ruined.
We have a law in our city which doesn’t allow dogs to be unleashed anyways, though it’s obviously not enforced. 100% owners fault
I’ve no doubt there are leash laws, but that’s about as responsible of law breaking as you can get from that guy. Control of his dog, hardly anyone around.
Running around at midnight (assuming you meant am and not pm based on the rest of the story), an off leash dog was probably one of the least illegal things happening. I was more focused on how you planned to react to the dog.

I have 3 dogs I walk on leash regularly, dogs come up to us off leash all the time. Her dog wasn’t confident in her leadership and got fearful of the situation. If that dog approached happily it wasn’t initially aggressive and had to defending itself against her dog.
Probably dogs wandering into the road out in the country. People don't believe in fences and that's fine 99% of the time. But some dogs just go ape shi when a runner comes by, thinking they are defending territory or some such. I've been bitten just once by a dog that was being walked off leash and that just gave me a minor injury. I don't want a injury that takes me out of running for months from a freaking dog.
Other than that snakes hanging out on trails, especially rattlers and water mocs. They'll probably ignore me, but the consequences if they don't are great enough that I don't take chances.

The dog outweighed mine by at least 120 pounds and darted across a busy street from the side. I barely saw the dog out of the corner of my eye before it was jumping on me.
I was running at 12 pm in a park which isn’t heavily wooded. The park is lit well enough that I can see outlines body shapes , trees, and the ground. This big dog ran up to me. In the dark it didn’t look like a dog. It looked like wolf and I thought it was some cross of a coyote , because we have coyotes In our area. I screamed at the top of my lungs and made noises. The dog stood still. The dog was maybe 4-5 meters away from me. I screamed help , police, any words I could think of. Then I hear the owners whiny voice far away say come here 👏🏻 and the dog obeys his command. The dog wasn’t on a leash in the middle of the night. Whatever could have happened that day, if I kicked that dog or threw a rock at it, I would have blamed it on the owner.
Sounds to me like the owner was enjoying some off leash time with his dog in the park at an obvious low traffic point in the day, and the dog had excellent recall. Blame the owner all you want, you would’ve been the one overreacting.
Nah, screw that. If a dog comes running up to me with no owner in sight I'm not going to assume it's nice and pay for it. The poster reacted appropriately.
I hate when owners just assume because their dog is nice and well-behaved that people want it following them around everywhere. I would never let me dog do that, she gets to meet several people per week but it's with their consent first.

Again, no. We shouldn't just be okay with a dog interrupting our run. People should be more responsible.
Had a gun pulled on me as I was running on the shoulder of the road due to snow on the sidewalk (not a busy street).
SUV pulled off ahead of me, dude got out with a pistol and asked if I wanted to d!e. Backed away and when he got back in his car I'm pretty sure I set a road mile WR back to campus. That'll wake you up!

I live in a neighborhood where people let their dogs wander off leash. They walk through everyone's yard crapping everywhere and picking garbage out of our garbage cans. They always tell me, " oh it's okay it's all about trust," but really they're just a terrible dog owner and assume the burden is on someone else to "handle" a stray.
My dog has been attacked twice by neighborhood dogs. I usually intervene because my dog isn't aggressive and usually doesn't realize an attack is coming. I don't own a dog for protection and I don't need to play into the weird power dynamic dog owners are always telling me about. Coincidentally, my dog listens to everything I say as I've set clear boundaries unlike the dummies who ramble about leadership lol

About to do a 3rd loop and the guy points me out to his mom and laughs, "This is they guy." They were done and back by the parking lot area at this point. In the adjacent section of the park, I am just in a zone and I just happen to run right between 2 guys in trench coat as they flashed each other. This part of the park most of the people in the are don't know because the trail path wasn't well cleared. I hope they got their rocks off.
Too many perverts and dummies who don't know how to handle dogs here. Just yell "go home" or "get" with an assertive voice. Finally, if you have to, reach to the ground as if you're picking up a rock. My record is 1532 wins 0 losses.

I think I've written about this before but many, many years ago I was running out in the desert and I found a lot of unmarked graves. The sad thing was the size of them. RIP.
