I have spent enough time watching track and cross country to realize that I know nothing about the future. I don’t know anything about the personal lives of the athletes or anything about how their training is going so I’m just going to appreciate and accept what ever results appear before me. I will celebrate the achievements and lament the unexpected downfalls, but life goes on, either way.
Track, for all but a few, doesn’t provide a return in dollars for the effort spent - at least not beyond paying for college tuition in the US. For the rest of us, we find other ways to make a living and so need to appreciate the efforts and genetic improbability required to become pro in this relatively unpopular sport.
That said, I will never underestimate the potential for one athlete to beat another nor second-guess the training methods used to do so. Infrequent racing and taking time off seem reasonable to me for the very top athletes because I can’t imagine the mental and physical efforts involved with shooting for world record performance.
Sounds like Mu is following Kersee playbook and will make you fools wait for the big races.
Yes, she is following our playbook where we hide our athletes while we create individual micro dosing templates to suit each runner. Some need to start earlier than others and we don't want to risk exposure.

I know we all want to see Mu race, but it is a long season, so right now we dont know what her plans are. I would think she will race in the US a few times, do Worlds and a few Diamond League races.....definitely will be a Pre. Should be an exciting year...especially if she opts to run a 400M race or two, along with Sydney and Femke Bol, that would be great.
The "season" hasn't even started. The ones running fast now will be tired and burnt out come July.
This has been proven false over and over again. You don't need to hide 11 months out of the year to win championship races
There are two major championships this year and next.
Putting in meaningful blocks of uninterrupted training of base, speed, base, speed, base, speed, base instead of indoor racing may be precisely what Mu needs to be faster, swifter and stronger than all other competitors.
If it's endurance (duration, volume) Kersee's after trying to build up while having Mu maintain her speed, Mu doesn't need indoor racing to achieve this goal.
It's the same for LA kids you know: UCLA here and there, West LA CC, Mt Sac Relays, and assorted Beach, Triton, Cerritos, UCR, ... Then The OLYMPIC Games. Acting school, Dancing school, Voice Lessons, JAVA Certificate, Singing School, audition, Block Chain Ceritifaction, audition, little TV commercial gigs, MBA studies. The same story likely for Athing.
I’m getting tired of our “best pros” not running any races during the season. If you’re the best, then prove it. People want to see amazing runners vulnerable to loss, not just peaking for the last event of the year and riding off into the sunset. Bekele did it, El G, Mo Farah, Jakob. They put themselves in more competition even if they weren’t at the advantage and that’s what people love.
Exactly why people don't watch this sport. These athletes train 12 months a year and run 3 races? I guess they enjoy getting paid to train?
The only payday is the Olys. Other than that they run the historic L.A. training circuit. Crisper Investigators (genetics) pays very well and can be learned through online studies. Talent may get movie parts and a recording contract for 1 in a million. That's life in Hollywood.
