How long until Cade Flatt breaks American 800 record?

How many 4:00 HS milers disappear into irrelevance in college? How well did the actual highschool record holder for 800m take to the pro scene?

I have a friend who was about a 2:00 guy in HS and dropped a 1:47 his freshman year. Does that mean a 1:50 HS guy should expect to run 1:37 or so? No, because improvement isn’t linear, especially at a young age.

I have another friend that ran 1:58 and 4:25, and didn’t ever PR in the 800m despite focusing on it, and only got down to like 4:23 in the mile.

The notion that Flatt is more talented than Brazier is/was is patently absurd. Brazier was an absolute unicorn in HS.

I think Cade will be 1:42.xx by the time all is said and done. He may not get the AR but I think he will have more Olympic medals than Brazier will when it’s all said and done.

Rudisha was a phenomenon. I don't see it for cade flatt to dismantle the world record. Maybe he hits 1:43-1:44 but sub 1:40 is a stretch even by 2024
