Consider getting a wahoo kickr or snap and join Zwift - lots of fun! I’m guessing the aerobic fitness and VO2 max will transfer over from cycling - it’s the biomechanics thats problematic.
Remco Evenepoel ran 1:16 for the Brussels half marathon, but that was when he was 16, not sure if he could run as fast now with more intense cycling specific training.
One thing I can say with certainty about Tom is he didn't attempt to "fake" a time. He was just a little...naive. You gotta keep in mind he's in many ways still a kid, and I genuinely think he just didn't realize how fast that time was. If you ask him, he would likely say on a fast course he could dip under 15 but no faster.
And yeah Remco running 1:16 is both valid and probably not that surprising given that he spent his early years playing soccer and has a massive engine.
1,Will an exercise bike be as good as real cycling?
2, Will get one for recovery days
1, No, it's boring as hell. On a nice day, cycling outdoors, you can ride for miles and miles and the time just flies by
2, You would be better off running easy or walking than biking indoors.
I'm with bikerun about this. It's a mental struggle to keep going on easy long days for me. Sometimes I'll watch a movie or a few episodes of something, though I find live sports the best distraction because I can't fast forward. :)
It's cycling specific for the most part. He can probably cycle well because he trains for it. Unfortunately he can't run nearly as well because he doesn't do training for running.
Lance Armstrong was a great cyclist doping or not. However when he went to run a marathon he only managed around 2:46. A good time for many but definitely nowhere near what the leading men in the race were running.
Doubtful any of those top marathoners could go up Alpe D'Huiz with Armstrong, or even finish within an hour of his time. I am not ever sure they could complete a ride up the Alpe. Doubtful they could ride 120 miles in 4 hours, either. I once had Lance pass me- on the Iowa ride called RABGRAI- some years ago and it was like I was standing still at 16mph.

Agreed! That's because the runners are training specifically for running. They would have a difficult time just completing the course and would be nowhere near the leaders. It's all about training specifically for the event you plan on doing. Great runners are great at running. Great cyclists are great at cycling. When they venture into a new event it doesn't ensure that they will be just as successful.

That was his first marathon before he switched to cycling, also it was before super shoes era. In triathlon before getting banned, he ran a 1:15 half marathon during a 70.3. that would be good for 2:30 in an open marathon, 2:20 with carbon bouncer shoes
