Once again, the unregistered posting policy comes up for debate.
Who are the actual trolls ?
I am a Supporters Club member. Renewed last week for 2023. The BroJos know my name and address. They don't know me, but they know who I am.
Do they know who you are ? Perhaps they should.
Perhaps they shouldn't.
And BTW registering does nothing here, it's pretty much the same as unregistered, the only difference is that you can only use one unregistered name at a time, unless you clear your cookies of course.
The mods need to stop deleting every thread that is even remotely funny.
Thank you. This is the single biggest problem on this site, in my opinion. Letsrun.com is now the most heavily censored site I have ever been on. I can’t tell you how many threads I have tried to reply to, but it simply disappeared.
1. CONSISTENT MODERATION and TRANSPARENT MODERATION
2. The journalistic side of LRC needs to do a better job of covering the sport and writing about it. Get more interviews and do stronger analysis. The front page is mostly aggregated articles and that makes sense. Where it falls apart is when the "journalism" is just hot takes/opinions or low effort nostalgia pieces. If Chris Chavez and Kyle Merber can get interviews and quotes, you can too.
3. The ability for posters to edit their own posts
4. To point #1, keep the board tidier and more focused. Eliminate multiple threads on the same topic. Only allow threads that have a defined discussion topic and universal interest. They don't all have to be running threads but the board gets too gunked up with stuff like "New Edmonton City Councilor Doesn't Get It!" and "Anyone Else Drinking Alone Tonight?". Much of the anti-social behavior comes from threads that are designed solely for individual attention and that invite flame wars. Politics, social issues, and non-running topics are fine. Just eliminate the arcane personal beefs, attention whoring, and blatant group trolling.
5. Suspend or ban the "one trick pony" posters. I use as examples the guy that always posts crap like "USATF/NASA/Apple/YouTube/Adult Video Industry Must Build XR Virtual Track & Field Complex in World's Media and Fast Twitch Capital of Los Angeles" or the guy on the Seth James Demoor thread that can only post something about Garth Brooks. It's neither funny nor does it add anything to the conversation.
The problem with the suggestion is, in order to accomplish it, you would have to censor the site to the point that many threads would be nonsensical. Like it or not, LRC is a place of freewheeling discussion. You can have interesting, informative threads with good discussion. So we have to tolerate responses that we don’t like, or some trolling. Isn’t that part of life? Don’t you have to talk to people in real life that you don’t really want to talk with?
Thank you. I too have concluded that the brothers simply don’t know what the moderators are doing. I strongly suspect the problems with censorship in moderation is caused by a very small number of people.
If this site were just running I’d still visit but only about 1/5th the time. Stop buckling to the snowflakes that go crazy if any opinion different from their own is expressed and instead remind people that it is their choice to open a particular thread and to read comments.
Let more of the heated (and interesting) threads fly… more threads on global warming, trans athletes, vaccine injury, and who shot JR would be super.
Well said. I agree. If this site were only about running, and everything else were censored, I would not be here particularly often. And I’d be willing to bet the quite a few others would leave the site as well.
I don’t offer suggestions because I don’t think it makes any difference. I think your moderators are running this place. They generally don’t give a damn about what we think.
Frankly, I don’t think they care what the brothers think, either.
Wejo - As you can see from the posts here, its pretty clear that the "runnning thread" only is popular because all of us are tired of the trolls, period. Even with the box checked, I still get plenty of non-running threds that show up.
Time to revisit the concept of ONLY registered users posting on the boards so that we can finally stop dealing with the insanity of the right-wing, vaxx-deniers in every single thread. If everyone is registered, you could stop the amount of time that you and Rojo have spent walking this tightrope of letting users freely in then having to semi-police the whole thing constantly, or having the vast majority of us complain when yet another good discussion is torn apart by the trolls.
I'd be happy to re-register if it meant that i could somehow clean-up this message board experience.
Confining this site to only registered posters would mean it’s ruin. It would be a lot less interesting.

Part of the issue is some of you have few friends because you do not want to be censored and you won’t censor yourself. You may have few friends because you alienate people. You value your opinions so highly that when your post is deleted you feel that somehow the moderator is evaluating you negatively. NONE of this matters that much in the long run. The moderation is poor here but it will likely always be poor. The moderators may not be great but I am not sure any moderator would please many of you.

They may actually be true depending on the moderator.

You’re swaying more people into wanting required registration with that argument
Stop letting the same few posters derail every remotely interesting thread. I cannot tell you how many good threads about training get derailed by "Magic Coach JS" with pages upon pages of garbage, cluttering relevant pieces of information.
And the same 3-4 posters have turned so many threads into their own personal playground to argue about doping for 20+ pages, you know who these people are. A couple of idiots shouldn't be allowed to ruin every good discussion about training/racing. Give them their own doping thread or something to yell into the abyss.
When it comes to " Magic Coach JS " I don't agree with you. He's one of the most knowledgable posters here.Of course I don't agree with everything he post here, but he's a very fresh wind. LR needs guys like him to stay interesting.Had been great to get an interview with the magic Swede.

less hate will make this place much better
I very much doubt that going to registration only would reduce the “hate.” (Whatever that means.) The hate is a product of the internet allowing low barriers to hostile communication, and our divided culture. It can’t be corrected by a simple policy change.

I don’t understand what you mean about having few friends, or why that matters in context. And I don’t want better moderators, I want less.

I was not intending to target you BUT my experience is that those of us who want to shoot our mouths off all the time will at times alienate people and may have few friends. Maybe those who want no moderation value speaking their minds to the detriment of their social skills.
I want to know the reason why any negative posts about Robbie Andrews and Norris are deleted so quickly but you have no problem with other doping accusation posts on other athletes.
Some great ideas here so far. I'll respond to some that caught my eye.
Wow. I really like this idea. I may make this my personal resolution for 2023. Can you come up with 12 injuries or maybe we just do 6?
12 examples, feel free to exclude some and include others. Might be dependent on the quality of the articles/threads/knowledge of the injury. There are a lot of good injury threads out there.
Sciatica Piriformis Upper Hamstring Tendinopathy Extensor Tendonitis Plantar Fasciitis Achilles Tendonitis Athletic Pubalgia Lateral Compartment Syndrome IT Band Syndrome Bone Spur (Hip, Foot) Iliopsoas Tendinopathy Osteoarthritis (tried to get an age specific or gender specific injury, this is more of a cause of injury)
General - Stress Fracture, Shin Splints, Runner's Knee, Muscle Strain, Calf Heart Attack ? I guess it wouldn't make sense to include more catastrophic injuries like ACL Tear or breaking a bone.
