I would tend to avoid podiatrists as well since the issue is probably multifaceted, extending beyond the foot. An orthoitc may be the answer, but it probably isn't the first thing that a gait expert would try.
I don't believe "overuse" is a thing unless you're running extreme mileage. It's more like misuse due to mechanics/muscle imbalance.
Overuse is a thing. Does not matter what you believe. Many people simply are not built to run more than a few miles every other day. I've seen people develop shin splints on under 10mi a week.
Get better running shoes.
Take time off.
Increase mileage very gradually.
