He was much more impressive in running second to Keino at Kingston than finishing 4th at Tokyo. But you wouldn't recognize that because the only thing that absorbs your attention are the "rules". You know nothing about running. Or anything else.

There were three better runners than him in Tokyo. He wasn't going to beat Keino in Kingston but he finished well and was closing on the Kenyan.

It was 55 years ago. It would be difficult to find anyone who was around at the time. If I am wrong about Simpson I nonetheless have retained a memory of this incident since the late '60's - the story made quite an impression on me at the time. I definitely associated it with the Kingston mile. I can't think of who else it could have referred to if it wasn't Simpson. However, as I said, he could have withdrawn the admission and the story would be deleted because he was the only source.
