Tuohy was the valedictorian. She would've gotten into Stanford no problem
Tuohy was the valedictorian. She would've gotten into Stanford no problem
Per this video interview, she (1) stopped briefly because spectators were on the course and she heard others yelling at them to get off, and (2) she took a wrong turn in the hills and ran "for maybe 10 seconds" before realizing the mistake then turning around and going back.
So, how's that for intrigue and talent?
Thus begins the legend of Irene Riggs . . .
9:01. When any of these heirs apparent win nxn three times, break every record from the mile to the 5000, and go on to win the ncaa title, lets us know.
Maybe wait for her to win at nxn before saying someone is a legend.
Two DIFFERENT races. The 17:02 race was earlier this year. The 16:02 race was this past weekend.
Your blatant obsession with Tuohy started long before she ever step foot on college campus.
She was historically good. What's fascinating is that people on here are still trying to take shots at her after she has continued her dominance in college.
Coulda woulda but she didn't. The smart runners go there. The others go to NC State where they prioritize running.
But Tuohy didn't have to contend with Cook or Riggs. Tuohy's wins were against inferior competition. She is the Al Bundy of this forum. He can't stop talking about the 5 touchdowns he scored in high school. You will still be talling about Tuohy's wins 5 years from ow eevn though there will be another 20 girls and young women who will have surpassed her times at the same age.
Could have sworn she just raced against Cook. Anyway high school records get broken. So what? Tuohy was historically dominant when she ran. And still is. :)
Btw when someone else averages a 175 SR for a season, let us know.
Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in one game for Polk High.

Riggs will be at NXN and that course will be a mess due to weather. I'd like to see what she could do at Balboa Park - She might get close to (or break) that long standing record. But it looks like it is not in the cards.
Depends on how messed up the course is. It is always wet. But if it is a swamp like 2019, then enjoy.
Tuohy is 2 grades ahead and more than a year older. If the criteria is now that all Americans are on equal footing, Tuohy is behind at least a dozen. Cook is faster in high school and as a college freshman. If you wnat to compare Tuohy to Monson or Cranny, she is an embarrassment.
just now it is wrote:

ok let me understand. We compare Cook as a freshman to Tuohy as a freshman and conclude Cook is better. Then we compare Tuohy in college to the pros after college and conclude they are better. Ok.
How could you misread that? The fact was provided that Cook is younger than Tuohy. She ran a faster 5k in high school. She is faster as a freshman in college. Astro claimed that Tuohy beat her which is a real time head-to-head comparison. If that is what he wants to do, then Tuohy is not an elite runner because there are many Americans who would beat her. If we want to compare Tuohy in age categories, she loses to younger runners. The problem is that Tuohy fans pick head-to-head for Tuohy against younger runners and age groups when it comes to older runners. She loses one or the other.
The level of constant goal post moving is impressive.
You moved it by claiming that she beat Cook. You usually claim that she can't be compared to older Americans. I am happy to calmly discuss Riggs or Cook or Schweizer or Cranny as compared to Tuohy. I request that you define where the goal posts are because most rational people prefer one set while you are trying to use two sets.
Let's get back to the OP's point rather than hijack his thread. Riggs is the 2nd fastest cross country runner of all time and she rushed Tuohy's course record.
