I recruited this kid when he was in high school, he did break out until late into his senior year. Maybe 60th at state XC but awesome track times. Kid was super normal, nice, solid student.
This is more strange and worrisome than anything. Very attention seeking and unbelievable

This story is wild. It reminds me of James Hogue - aka Alexi Santana who was a legend at Princeton a year or two before I got there. In 1985, dude enrolled in Palo Alto HS at age 25 after being an NCAA Di athlete as an 'orphan' - won the Stanford invite but got exposed. While in prison ain 1987, he then applied to Princeton from PRISON, got in and was so beloved he had professors saying we should forgive him when the con was exposed.
MY RA at Princeton told me they walked around worshipping the guy. Got arrested later at Harvard for stealing gems.
Anyway, I've merged several threads into 1 and changed the thread title. The threads were initially titled. "College Athlete Bandits Texas State Meet" and "SUB 4 MILER BRENDAN HEBERT GOES HOME DEVASTATED."
I see at the bottom of the Mileplit article that the race was broadcast live. What were the commentator saying about the guy mid-race?

Not to be too alarmist, but I knew someone in college (who had quit the college's varsity team) who bandited a high school cross country race around 20 years ago. He went on to have severe mental health issues and later committed a very serious crime. I hope this young man doesn't have those issues.

This is extremely alarming. I hope he is arrested for something, not because I wish him any ill will, but he needs to be evaluated ASAP. This took planning and preparation.

I just can’t get over how weird this is. I was wondering if he suffered some sort of brain injury or mental break, and actually thought he was back in high school somehow. But, the deleting/changing of his social media accounts suggests he has some awareness of what’s going on. For a 1:49/sub-4 guy to do this, that makes it so much weirder than if it was a 4:30 guy. It just can’t be possible to be in your right mind and decide to line up for a high school state meet. I’m cringing just thinking about it.

Also, I love how in the article it sounds like the Milesplit guys just super casually interview him after the race. Like, “You know you can’t do that, right” and his response was something like, “Well I don’t run for my college anymore”.
Definitely seems like a guy completely out of touch with reality and in a way it almost reminds me of that guy a while back who was stalking Infeld - not violent but extremely creepy and didn’t see anything wrong with what he was doing

Our sport needs more people like this who are willing to push the barriers. I think that the high school state meets should include alumni. It would only make the competition tougher and way more exciting. That was a great race between those two gentlemen.
