Russia lies because it doesn't have a media that holds it's politicians accountable for their words or actions. The west can see through the BS but the people living in Russia don't know the difference.
Rather ironic that the loudest cheerleaders for Ukraine in the US are the people who support social and cable media acting as de facto arms of the Biden administration.
I'm not sure their military is any more dysfunctional than it's always been, Russia has always won by overwhelming numerical superiority. They simply don't have the numbers to use the only tactics they know how to use.

Putin has killed and jailed hundreds of people to stay in power.
Getting tens of thousands of Russian boys killed for no reason with nothing to show for it will be a death sentence for him.

Putin just gave a speech the other day where he emphasized that the US used nuclear weapons to achieve its war aims on a country it was occupying. Then he immediately began preparing his nuclear forces for use in Ukraine.
This is a direct threat to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Putin will not accept defeat in Ukraine. If he isn't given a way to save face there's a very good chance he will opt to burn it all down with him because he knows defeat means he dies.
If he does use nukes in Ukraine the US will be forced to decide if it wants to punish Russia and risk a wider nuclear war or if it just bends over and sets the precedent that using nukes is now okay because responding is too risky.
