I remember when guys used to be interested in the female body.
Yeah. They were called hotness threads on Letsrun. Nowadays, those threads are instantly deleted.
I vaguely remember those. They would start off about who was hottest, then immediately go on about criteria and other unrelated stuff vs hotness.
It was like a bunch of guys seeing an attractive naked girl, then just looking at each other while they debated it vs checking out the hottie. Times are changing.
He’s not proportional at all, which is very important in bodybuilding.
Proportional in bodybuilding lately means biceps as big as your head. Synthol changed everything and made it a contest of twisted gargoyles and comic book villains

Hmmm...I just remember it more simply as an excuse to post pictures of women in bun huggers.
Oh, I'm currently 44, 5'6", 185lbs...don't ask me my BF but I have some abs.
Deadlift: 405
Back Squat: 360
Bench 265
Lift 3x a week. Run 4-5 x a week. I don't have Instasnapbook. I just get work done.

Do you think a skinny runner can put on a pound of muscle without putting on a half pound of fat concurrently? As verified by dexascan, not skin fold calipers? I suspect you are a natural mesomorph, who only got down to 140 pounds from the catabolic effects of high mileage. And that of the 45 pounds you put on, at least 10 were fat. Not trying to be obnoxious but the people I know that did before and after dexas were surprised how hard it is to gain muscle without gaining fat, or lose fat without losing muscle
It's probably 20lbs of fat! :P. The way you say....45lbs you put on... makes me want to cry....
I have no desire to get a real body fat test done. I just seek performance in and out of the gym. I max my Army 2 mile test with a sub 12:00 unopposed!
Also, there is a difference between 'fat free mass' and 'muscle'. The fat free mass you put on during the that magical time when you first start lifting is going to include a lot of other stuff besides muscle fiber.
Through 7 site skin fold caliper testing I've seen new lifters both put on muscle and drop fat during the magical first 6-12months.
Don't worry about muscle loss or gain or fat loss or gain. What is your performance doing? If your performance is getting better (or maintaining as you get older) then that's all that matters IMO.

Exactly....Bullchitters...exagerators and liars abound here....sprintgeezer among them.
incredible body transformation. Never seen this type of development in a former skinny distance runner. Can you imagine guys like Frank Shorter or Bill Rogers transforming themselves in this way?
Not everyone can be even a remotely good distance runner, but just about all men (again, under age 50...still can do it over age 50...it's just harder to do) can lift weights (and/or do body weight exercises) and significantly bulk up in a relatively short period of time.
Yes, Hall went from one extreme to another...a point I already made. Also, Hall didn't take years to look like that. Once he stopped running like he was and started lifting, he got close to where he is now in a very short period of time.
I agree with this.
I went through a phase where I just stopped running for good mileage for 6 months. I was fed up with the bad races, going through a really bad breakup (long story), working too many hours. I was kind of depressed. So, after two months of being sedentary, I joined a gym and lifted weights and I could not believe how quickly I went from 155 to 170 lbs without the help of powders or even excessive eating.
It did make to realize how much running just strips away everything. I know nothing about weight lifting but apparently they would call this "newbie gains"? While I never ended up looking like Ryan Hall, it's easy to see how he got that big that quickly. It took no time for me.
Yeah, nah.
You were like a dude that came off the sofa 30lbs overweight and went from a 27min 5k to a 23min 5k.
It’s a totally different deal to get to where Mr Hall is.
Agreed! If you're running is not your career and earning a living from it, why restrict calories and put your health at risk? He said he eats more now than running 20 miles a day. Dang
In this video, I talk about squat depth - does it really matter? Should we all squat to the same depth? Does squat depth affect muscle activation, strength, ...
Almost certainly the result of TRT. It's very common, and often a big mistake for younger people. If he's not a pro, and he's not - it's not a healthy lifestyle, but I guess that's up to the individual.

I have never understood what might be gained by bullchitting. Feel free to believe what you wish.

Of course it’s possible to put on muscle without adding 50% of the gain as fat (ie 1/3 weight gain as fat). It’s also possible to recompose, ie lose fat while simultaneously gaining muscle. Recomp gets harder the leaner and more muscled you already are, which is one reason why meathead bros bulk and cut. But anybody can just slowly bulk gaining say 1-2 pounds per month eating at or near maintenance and they’ll gain very little fat if at all.

It isn't muscle for health or for sports but for vanity. The usual reason behind bodybuilding.
Did Ryan Hall at any time admit to taking steroids? I’m just asking because I never saw that mentioned. In addition we all know that he’s a God-fearing evangelical Christian with his wife and so taking steroids would be bizarre for someone in that position, or am I thinking naïvely? With regard to his legs they look good but it is true that they do not really look very proportional to his overall body size because looking at his legs they look to be about the same size as his arms which is unusual.
I think there's something very interesting going on with ryan hall, when you consider the extremes he goes to and has gone to. It's not interesting that he's buff though. Many people are buff.
Dude just looks way too big now. Everything is out of proportion.
Nope. He looks great. Way hotter than you skinny runner boys.
I want to see a video where he isn't in charge of the angles. Just like someone takes a video of him walking into the grocery store. I'll bet he looks weird AF, because he already looks like that in photos he approves of that show his legs. I wanna see him waddling around
