It’s clearly evident that Cheatpinski was a drug cheat. How can it be possible that he is allowed to keep your Gold Medal? Why is he not being stripped of the Gold Medal- which clearly belongs to you! Who’s protecting that drug cheat?
And yet Cierpinski was the only distance runner from the DDR to do anything in '76. Where were the East Germans in the 5 and 10 thousand? There is much more to Cierpinski's success than doping.
DDR had a steepler who won the bronze after hitting the last barrier.
He also said the unnamed individual ran very poorly. Moore and Bachelor while probably upset at not medaling (4th and 9th) certainly did not have a bad race.
- Is there anything you would have done differently when training for a marathon? Nowadays most elite runners do a lot of threshold workouts which you didn't seem to do according to most articles/interviews.
- How fast/slow was your pace on easy days?
- Who would you consider the toughest non-American athlete you raced against?
- What's your advice for ambitious athletes aiming to run a fast (first) marathon?
Should have clarified this and asked why he moved there.
I think I heard the same thing. It's easy to figure out. The Boulder vibe and New England vibe are polar opposites.
True. I've lived in Boulder and have been in New England now for a long time. If it's a matter of changing vibes I'd get it but if you've lived with one vibe for decades you must have been okay with that vibe so what happened to get you looking for a new one. It's not a big deal but as I was typing two other questions thought I might as well throw that in.

Not only did Frank live there for decades, as you know, but many people are not choosing their location due to politics or vibes or whatever. I don’t agree with most of your politics but it seems you would have still been a good guy to run with.

I don't know if you consider sixth place at the Olympics as running very poorly but in Ron's case you very well could. If I had to put money on who it is I'd bet on Ron. The other thing here is that Ron had received death threats from the IRA which wouldn't have done anything to calm him.
Former Olympic long-distance runner Frank Shorter has run the Falmouth Road Race many times over the past 47 years. This summer, however, Mr. Shorter will run for the first time

I specifically posted the distance events 5000, 10000 and marathon. I am fully aware of the late Frank Baumgartl.

It's an old story: Boulder has changed. The last vestiges of the vibe that Shorter found when he got to town may have finally been snuffed out. It's a community that as a rule worships what's new, fast money, prone to snobbery and posturing, quick to bury history and the old before it achieves any patina. It has more and more of that SoCal "what have you done for me lately?" I wonder if more than a handful can recognize Benji Durden out on his midday runs anymore. If not for the Bosleys and a handful of other survivors, Shorter would be more or less forgotten in the public eye. No one could blame him if he simply tired of it all and wanted to trade it in for something more form-fitting and homey, where his accomplishment and status would be shown broad appreciation.

That would suck if he moved because he felt like people weren’t kissing his ring enough during his wonderland lake shuffles. I mean I love seeing him at bolder Boulder personally, but no one is owed fame. I doubt that’d be a dealbreaker for the guy anyway, or at least I hope
