Your statement "greatness rarely includes perfection of character" is an honest opinion that's agreeable. And in most cases i choose to be positive and recognize the above average athleticism in professional athletes. I live in America and almost every athlete I admire is under the umbrella of your statement. I've come to realize that. Belittling or celebrating a loss of a Serena shouldn't be a celebration. I admire an root for so many athletes and I don't know their character personally. Because I focus on their amazing talents to be victorious at the professional level. I didn't like Danica Patrick statements about how dangerous running is when she doesn't even run. I don't know her character but I was impressed at her ability to succeed in a male dominant sport. She changed the sport of race car driving. My opinion is we shouldn't put down other athletes in their sport. But we're seeking recognition in track and field also expecting the sport of running to expand. Believe me when Tom Brady actually retires I'm going to reflect back on his great accomplishments. Not the tabloid-ish wife disagreements. It's amazing he's defying the odds of decline performance by aging. Lots of great accomplishments achieved by Brady. I prefer to focus on athleticism. I wish I had the ability to compete professionally in any sport. All athletes have character flaws. I choose to recognize their talents.

It's a bit hard to overlook poor sportsmanship, when it occurs. It isn't part of a competitor's personal life. It's a key part of sport. When we see its opposite, of grace under fire, it only evokes respect and admiration.
Change the name of the person in this thread to "Mary Cain" or any other female white runner and it's removed in seconds. You can call black women, "men," "fat," "sumo wrestlers," or whatever you want here without concern.

100% this. They're here for all of it. There's also this huge problem where nobody on their staff has ever had any sort of diversity training. So they moderate sensitive topics with the biases they have on full display. They have no desire to clean things up.
This should be a thread about what a fantastic career the GOAT female tennis player had. It's not, and that's disappointing. My wife and I watched her matches. It was a great experience.
