Pete Watson to Boston College T&F/XC? Are they FINALLY putting real money into their distance running program?

Isn’t this the same guy who successfully un-recruited Robby Andrews out of UVA years back?

I was a very competitive distance runner All New England and Nationally Ranked. I started BC and then the threats began. "You can only compete in NCAA sanctioned races. No AAU or Open Road Races. No Boston Marathon" "Your scholarship if you work or have a part-time job during the season (Sept to June) will be rescinded" There were many more threats. Neither of the 2 coaches knew anything about distance running. After I got badly hurt in the 3000 meter steeplechase, they did take my scholarship away. BC was a clown show then and it remains the same today. Doesn't really matter whether it is distance running or football. If you should get hurt in competition, they withdraw resources as opposed to assisting with your recovery. Tough lesson to learn for a 19 year-old but that's what happened to me.

All of what you say about BC Men's XC and Track/Field ....... that's got to be wishful thinking. For years the BC AD despised the program. I can still remember the comments "You're not athletes". You cannot imagine how painful it was to compete for a University that marginalized the Men's XC and T/F program. I'll stop here. Words remain words. I'll know that Boston College has changed when the University does show real $$ support to building a program and when they compete as a team in the Boston Marathon. ie: they allow their athletes to make their own decisions where, when and in what events to compete.
