All this speculation about who will step up for NP in the future is really grasping at straws. First of all, as discussed in other threads it's not clear that Brosnan will still be at NP, and if he leaves if the next coach can get similar results.
Second, trying to extrapolate 8th grade mile/two mile times into the future leads to nowhere. The best we can say about an 8th grader running sub-5 for a mile is that he has some basic ability for middle distance running. Beyond that we can't predict with any degree of certainty how a kid will develop. There are so many variables involved.
Also, Trying to predict what NP’s team will look like in 2023 isn’t useful. Some elite transfers may come in.
In fact, there might be one coming in this fall. I saw in the L/L videos that there was a Brandon training with them. He’s either a transfer or someone from another school who chose to train with them

That would be Brayden Seymour from Hagerty H.S. in Florida, with bests of 4:11.07 mile & 8:59.72 3200. There's no indication that he's transferred to NP. My guess is that his family planned a vacation & since he would be in the area he asked if he could train with NP at Big Bear.

Will there be an out of State transfer to NP?
Let’s ay that you are a 4:20-4:25 junior miler. It could be tempting to go to NP to see if you could benefit from the environment and go down to 4:1X low and earn a scholarship.

…or a 4:11 junior, who would like to try to become a 4:00 miler and earn a full ride to the College of his choice
So yes, huge improvement required by their non seniors. There will be a battle this year to be the 7th man on the team. Porter should get it, but others have their eye on it, I am sure.
Interestingly, Porter and Shetty rank high in NP’s all time Soph list. Watson is also right up there in NP’s all time freshman list. Dickran is probably the best incoming freshman in NP history.
So maybe huge improvement is possible.
Colin was already running 4:16 as a freshman and he came in much slower than Dickran.
Doshi was also running “only” 5:00 as an incoming freshman and ran 9:02 as a soph.
5 of those guys are coming back for 2023. I saw in an Gonzalez’s article about Brosnan leaving that Shetty is gonna surprise a lot of people this year.

In 2023 here are the projected top guys:
Doshi
Porter
Shetty
J Sloan
N Sloan
Dickran
Watson
Adrian Cantu (if he chooses Newbury Park)
You’ll notice they will have 8 guys here. Looks like they will have depth in 2023. So if Adrian Cantu chooses to go to Newbury Park, some really good would be limited to watching varsity run championship races.
Keep an eye on Southlake Carroll's Caden Leonard, son of coach Justin Leonard.
Opened season last night with a 4:30 1600 in 92 degree humidity. They have a 3200 in 2 weeks and first 5k in 3 weeks. His middle school best just 4 months ago was 4:49, so he responded well training with high school varsity this summer.
