Looks like you're confusing running and playing games with sprinting. But that's not a surprise that a sprinting fan is confused
Touchè!
Distance running scripts arm position
Distance running changes a gait
Distance running teaches running economy
Distance running limits anaerobic to spare the aerobic.
This Is good?
I'm not confused that 9.58 and 19.19 are the human maxes for now.
I am confused about tactical races because .it becomes scripted...like the training!
Natural running isn't scripted.
So..aren't you confused?
You are only right about being confused. Humans are born to run. Not born to sprint from some artificial contraption called a block and rely on as much roids as is possible to attain acceleration from said blocks. Human max is 3:26 at the moment and that's the only number that really matters.
What sport other than track does anyone just take off running?
They all also run. For a very long time. A much more desired trait. What use is for a rugby player that can only sprint for 30 meters once? They have to be able to run at least two miles in a game. And exactly... Horses and greyhounds go for a mile. Thank you for validating
So you think sprinting is a joke. Try running a 43s 400m. Go ahead, it takes less that a minute. Then you can go run your 800m repeats or whatever workout you want. If you fail and I know you will, wait a minute or two and try it again. Maybe you will succeed on your second try. Or your third. Or your forth.

Where you getting.....only sprint 30 meters once......from? What good is any of those I mentioned without sprint speed?
What do...
Running backs, wide receivers, cornerbacks. kick returners need, yep.....speed. What do edge rushers need, yep....speed.
What good is it going to do me that I can run a few miles? I need some speed if I plan on playing any team sport, you don't get that?

I don't get some of the weird names you threw out. Guessing that's some American football lingo? They don't sprint or run much in my understanding. In this football you need strength or skill. But don't care for that.
But if you're in any actual sport where you need to last for an hour or two you better be able to run. How do you not understand?
Not true, ever since i started training years ago i noticed the difference between hard work that distance runners do and mediocore work that sprinters do.
i only wanted to be a sprinter when i was a kid that didn't know anything about the sport.
As I grew and saw the clear picture, man i dont wanna be part of the posers(sprinters) crew even if it could get me more recognition.
Walking around track shirtless, doing 60m sprints, resting for 4 minutes, i mean come on man whats the pride in that?
You have embarrassed yourself enough with this response and all the previous ones. You are a complete Track & Field idiot.

You are correct sir - force production in every foot strike against the track give the sprinter increased stride length. That's why they hit the weights.
Once top speed is reached, it's maintained by inertia.
Yes, it's important to have explosive power in the first 30m of a 100m if you want a high top speed. But once you're at top speed, your stride length is just speed/cadence, and it will stay that way as long as nothing slows you down.
For many distance runners, even good middle distance runners, top speed is about 8 m/s, a 50s 400m. If you're doing 4 strides/s, that's a 2m stride. Most sprinters gain their faster top speed on the cadence end, e.g. 9 m/s at 4.5 strides/s and still a 2m stride.
If you find this confusing, think about the mechanics again - the goal at top speed is simply to avoid braking force. To hold a higher top speed, your foot has to be moving faster relative to your body at footstrike, to be at rest relative to the ground. This means either your cadence MUST increase, or your foot MUST travel farther relative to you through the gait cycle. The latter hits its limit before the former.
If this is still confusing, swing a yo yo around your head slowly, and then swing it faster. Faster scalar speed = faster revolution
Sprinting is really intense and hard. A different kind of hard. It's more like bodybuilding. Sprint workouts can leave you totally burned out. Sore muscle type kind of fatigue rather than cardio fatigue, but it's still rough. Try working out with some sprinters and you'll have deep respect for them.
Are you stronger per your body weight than Ryan Crouser? If no, you have to go on (15 to 30) mile runs to be an elite athlete. Since sprinters can weight lift per their body weight more than Ryan Crouser, sprinters are allowed to do Feed the Cats training. If you cannot beat sprinters in the weight room, you cannot consider sprinters a joke.
There are thousands of very fast sprinters with twig arms and twig legs, like De Grasse, Jeremy Wariner, Steve Gardiner
Nigel Amos could run a 45 flat 400, I doubt he could deadlift or squat more per lb than a shot putter. I'd be surprised if he lifts at all.
Main thing in sprinting is to be able to move your arms and legs back and forth real fast. That's what all the drills they do are about, training their movements
Were you a former T&F athlete? Was weight training a routine for sprinters and middle distance runners in your era? I posted under my registered user name weights I was able to lift at 5'11" 14x lbs. age 17 to age 51. I did not state sprinters are always the bulkiest athletes on the team. I stated sprinters, pound for pound are stronger than shot putters. I wasn't even a full time sprinter. I was only a full-time sprinter in 8th grade for about 3 1/2 weeks. At 51 years old, 5'11" 14x lbs., pound for pound I was stronger than R. Crouser, with twig arms as you say.
Okay i pull back my claims, i mean who am I to judge other sports. I am a 160lb 800/1500 runner and it is normal for a 200lb sprinter to get tired after running far and long.
At the end of the day sprinters can at least outrun bodybuilders and weight lifters in various distances which gives them enough track credentials.
They also bring a lot of fans to the track which can only help the sport.

20ish Olympic sprinters have played NFL Football, runners can only run.
Nice cherry picking, if all sprinting is being able to run fast for a short time i dont want any part of it. Where are the sacrifices, where is the struggle, where is the heroes journey?
