Can I talk about Alan Webb, if I'm referring to a race that he ran when he was still in high school? This gets complicated. What a mess. Is it weird that the only segment of society it seems socially acceptable and almost encouraged to discriminate against is old people? I think it is.
Seriously. Pick up your latest catalog that comes in the mail. The models will be incredibly diverse. Fat, skinny, black, white, hot, not hot, trans, cis, etc. but what will not be in there - an old person.
Why can't a 50 year old comment on a the potential of a 17 year old phenom just like a 25 year old?
And I'm not saying 50 is old.
Apart from anything, it’s just not that interesting. No one outside of America could give two sh*ts about US High School running. Even the NCAAs is fairly insignificant and meaningless. And yet, so much time is spent analysing this stuff at the expense of the elite end of the sport.
I wanna hear what the best in world are up to, not what some pimple-faced kid from Bumbf*ck State (who’ll likely have quit the sport within 18 months) is going to run when he’s all grown up.

I kind of agree with this. There was two americans doing good in Diamond league yesterday, but they don't get their own threads - only the 16 year olds running 3:58 minute miles. I do not get the obsession with kids when it clearly is at the cost of the elite runners. So much can happen from you are 16 til you are, say 18/19/20. Let them develop and figure out things themselves without this huge spotlight on them. And last, but not least - give your american elite runners the attention they deserve. You had two great races yesterday. Its absurd to see the amount of threads about different teenagers in here.

As other have said. Many 50 year olds have sons and daughters that are now competing at high school. Usually have competed themselves too in the past. Are likely to be Athletics fans too.
My children and their friends are a case in point. One of the girls at their school ran 2:03 and bits twice this year and she is 15, can we not discuss her?
17yr old sub 4 milers like Nick Griggs in Ireland are possible future champions and why can't people talk about them?
The HS questions on here are indeed quite valid. How come kids are appear to be running so fast and more of them recently?
