They leave it open but have always gone with the WC. The reason is simple. If it changed every year, you'd have athletes complaining about it. Normally, the longest period of time between WC is 2 years. However, this (hopefully) one time occurance shouldn't result in changing how they do it.
As to your shot put example...any country with a bye athlete can enter up to 4 entries.....so Kovacs is not replacing anyone.
(Then why not make it a formal rule & cover your asses USATF!). Thx for the reply. Not sure why, but I thought we only sent Top 2 from U.S. Champs (plus a bye where applicable). If Micah Williams, Bromell and Knighton (who all have WC standard) were to go 1,2,3 in M 100 with Kerely 4th, Coleman 5th then Kerely goes of course, yes??
Coleman has the bye so no. He's likely to not run the 100m at USATF with the exception of the first round anyway which is all that is required for him to qualify with the bye.
If true that we can only take one wild card into Worlds (2019 World Champions/2021 Diamond League Champs), then how is that decision made? The 'conflicts' I see are the 100, 200, 110H, and Shot with Coleman/Kerley, Lyles/Bednarek, Holloway/Allen, and Kovacs/Crouser.
If I am not mistaken, in such situations, the WC winner takes precedent over the DL winner.

I believe Coleman intimated at NYC Grand Prix he will run the 200m at USAs (he's entered in both). Lyles is entered in both as well but sounds like he might do the 200, even though his spot is secure. Could be an even more stacked 200 than anticipated with those 2, Bednarek, Kerley, Knighton all potentially in it.
Camryn Rogers from Cal is gonna get it. She has 2 collegiate records and won indoor and outdoor
What did Rogers win in indoor this past season? She had a great year but I don't recall her winning an indoor NCAA championship title.
As FastTuohy said, Steiner has multiple records this year. She has the collegiate indoor 300 m record, the American indoor 200 m record, and the collegiate 200 m record. Multiple titles in there as well. She will be tough to beat.
Why? Consistently as that is their criteria or rule? Seems odd we would reward the 3 year old performance over one just run last year.
Also do not like the way they reward qualifications on faster performances done last year than this year, it doesnt matter if youre slow this year, if youre fast 6 months ago, you'll get it in ... what a f-up rule
Status is showing Tuohy not accepted in both 1500 and 5000. 10 in 5000 declared with standard. 5 more have standard. Is 15 all the field will be? Noone without standard accepted in either race? or might this change?
I think it will change as the field is filled up, as a previous poster indicated. Then again we are talking about UST&F. Not the sharpest knive on the draw.

It might change. We'll have to see who actually declares after they have been accepted.
what the heeeel, why is katelyn tuohy doing a double !!??? i thought she was just gonna pick one event as they said... but they declared for both 1500m and 5000m and she ranks high enough to actually make it on both fields
i really want to see her best 5000m time this season, if she runs 1500m, we wont be getting a 100% from her on the 5000m final

Tuohy knows she won't make the team in either the 1500 or the 5k. She is going there for the experience.

i would love to see her best 5000m time but it seems like we will be getting her best 1500m time instead and still see her compete at a 5000m the next day!! fair enough

She's probably just going to scratch from one of the events once she's made up her mind on which one she wants to do.
