Yeah I totally agree with you. Houlihan can be both a cheat and a victim of an uneven, unfair system. I believe at least one of her teammates was on the same chemical program she was (had a similar meteoric progression and unusual shredded appearance) and she didn't get caught thus far. So maybe Shelby can keep a straight face with all of this because she knows what's been going on behind the scenes and wonders why she's the only one to take the fall.
I condemn her and have empathy for her at the same time. I was a big Bonds fan, then I was bitter and disappointed, but then over time I began to feel that Barry was more of a victim and scapegoat than perpetrator. Cheating was just part of the baseball culture in the 90s, early 2000s, so many layers were doped and Bonds was the best, and he happened to get popped (sort of). I remember when Derek Jeter all of a sudden bulked up, but no, he’s clean!!! Honestly if the system is so messed up and justice is delivered so unevenly and sporadically then it turns the criminals into victims. We will spend pages now bashing SH, and then join a thread predicting that Gidey will run 2:11 in Valencia with a straight face. Seems like both the condemnation and the exuberance may be too great.
