How many songs have this exact same chord progression? 9000? The guy performs it well, but that song is tired. If it were the one song I had to listen to while stranded on a desert island, I'd be drinking myself to death with salt water on the first day.
Kendrick Lamar's music is new and original and it has some genuine edge to it (i.e., it rocks). Unlike the song you linked to, I've not heard anything quite like it before.

When you can't figure out kids listen to you music and you still use the F and N words that sends the music you have no class or common sense, ok man?
Now think just a litttle bit here, who is that song suppose to reach is sure isn't me that song is for for kids you don't see that? Well, most are way beyond that kind of crap, ok guy?

Speaking of thinking just a little bit - could you write this more clearly?

thank you Sitting in the studio thinking about which mood would go Right now, freestyle or write down, whatever It still'll come up clever I just need to free my thoughts, and Lord knows that I know better But I ain't perfect, I ain't seen too many churches Or know them testament verses You should either hear me now or go deaf Or end up dead, die trying and know death Might end up dead, swallow blood, swallow my breath XXX a funeral, just make sure you pay my music respect NNN I mean that from the bottom of my heart You see my art, is all I have And victory tastes sweet, even when the enemy can throw salt Still knock them out the park like a XXX tow car Let bygones be bygones, but where I'm from We buy guns and more guns, to give to the young I'm living the life of a NNN trapped NNN Inside the system all you envision is trap NNN
What? So, if a song doesn't have singing, then it's not a song? Or it's a sign the artist has no talent? Wow, what a limited world you live in. Elzio Dennick posted what he apparently thinks is "good music." Care to post what you consider "real music from an actual genre?"
Talking isn’t music. Don’t go comparing Kendrick with Mozart though. If you can’t objectively say the latter is more complex and soulful then we are done here. Darkthrone and CCR are the top two in my listening rotation right now. Both are infinitely more talented and worthy of listening time than Kendrick “imma rap about the ghetto” lamar
Darkthrone? I mean I like them but they were known to simplify their music to an extreme level on Transylvania hunger. One drum beat and a handful of riffs. Soulside Journey showed they are talented but they basically changed genres to Black metal as all metal bands in Norway were at the time

Its clear you’re just getting off on trolling at this point but would love to point out
A) good music/lyrics has zero to do with ‘class’ or ‘common sense.’ B) The F and N words are profanity, a part of language. They are perfectly acceptable to convey emotion and slag terminology.
We don’t have to like it. But to use that as your barometer for what makes good music is just juvenile.

It doesn't bode well for your argument if you immediately resort to "but think about the children!"
The greatest art is usually not "G" rated. The human experience is more complex than that. Was Goodfellas a bad movie because the dialogue contained a bunch of F bombs? Was Mark Twain a crap writer because he used the N word? Was Michelangelo a failure because he painted a bunch of d*cks and t*ts? Stop being a prude.
Again, it's not just dumb kids who like Kendrick Lamar. John Mayer, for example, is a huge fan and I think he might have just a little more credibility than you do when it comes to knowledge of quality blues music. (Unless BB King and Eric Clapton have also praised your mastery of blues guitar?)
See, you came into this thread adamant that anyone who likes Kendrick Lamar must have never heard real music. But the truth is that YOU'RE the stunted one. You're stuck in the past. Lots of great music in the past, no doubt, but it didn't stop being made in 1989 or whenever you decided to tune out. You've closed yourself off to a lot of great tunes for no good reason and now your palate can't handle it when you encounter them. It's a shame, really.
Meh. Rap started to get big when I was a little kid, and then it got REALLY big, especially for white kids, when I was in high school. My opinion about it has nothing to do with being old (not a grandpa though BTW).
Want to tell me that some old school Run DMC is music or some Cypress Hill, then I'll agree. This clip from Kendrick Lamar though isn't.
Idk if you perceive hip hop to only be be either old 80's hip hip or commercial radio hip hop of "lil [insert name]," then you're missing on a lot of great artistry and music. Take a listen to this song, read the lyrics, hear the production, and tell me what you think. Maybe you just don't understand the references, slang, or musicality of hip hop to appreciate it?
1) The music in the background is fine, and of course that's from Marvin Gaye. The rest of it is crap.
2) Not fond of ANYONE using the N word, so immediately I hate it when I hear that. Time for that to go the way of the dodo.
3) I recognize that rapping is a skill, but it's a skill I don't really appreciate, and I don't consider it "music", so this isn't a "song" in my opinion. It's a different thing altogether...spoken word, poetry, whatever, but it's not music. Yes there is music in the background, but sometimes comedians and magicians use music in the background, and what they are doing isn't considered "music."
You sound foolish and close-minded. Most of the people who would agree with your sentiment above are Trumpers; think about the company you're keeping on that one.
It has a beat. It has a chord progression. It has lyrics. So how is that not music? If "music" requires a melody that is sung, then you must not consider Foxey Lady by Jimi Hendrix to be music, either. Miss You, by the Stones? Not music! All instrumental music? Not actually music, according to Flagpole!
There are rap/hiphop artists who are great musicians and there are many great musicians outside the rap/hip hop genre who have nonetheless been strongly influenced by it. A bunch of most innovative guitarists on the scene right now are hip-hop lovers. Saying it's not music is flat-out dumb.
And, w/r/t the lyrics, you're getting all bent out of shape over one naughty word, despite the overall content being infinitely deeper than almost anything else on the pop scene today. Have you heard any Ed Sheeran songs lately? You'll that call that rote BS "music", but not Kendrick Lamar's songs? Insanity.
Music appreciation is subjective. There is no "Closed-mindedness" about it. There is no political affiliation attached to it.
The "music" was written by Marvin Gaye and performed by Marvin Gaye. What he is doing over top of it is not music.
A rap artist might BE a great musician, but their rapping is not evidence of it.
Just because there is BAD music out there doesn't make rapping 'music."

AND, it's not a "naughty" word. It is a VILE word. It is THE vile word in North America, and people should not use it...I don't care who you are.

If you think sampling an old soul/funk tune and rapping about ghetto life over the top of it is new, original and unlike anything you’ve heard then I’m not sure what you’ve been listening to cause it basically accounts for about 80% of hip hop.
Talking isn’t music. Don’t go comparing Kendrick with Mozart though. If you can’t objectively say the latter is more complex and soulful then we are done here. Granted Transylvanian hunger isn’t their best, but their early stuff is essential listening for any metal fan.

What is clear is you can't figure out when you have to resport to the N word numerous times and the F word and talk about guns for kids you don't get the damage that music does. Look guy young people don't need more of that crap, you have to be told this, really?

Exactly. Plus, Kendrick has literally ridiculed fans onstage for singing along with him and using the word. He’s a clown

Dude. my knowledge of them blues starts in 1920 the reason.....first blues recording. Trust me I know them blues, John Mayer, hahahaha!!!! BB King a huge fan of Djanjo Rhinehart, ever hear of him?
Anyway....
I am just as up on the right now as anyone so wrong again. Hell I can talk current artist you have never heard of like Reverend Shawn Amos, Larkin Po, Google them.
Bottom line is Kendrick Lamar doesn't deliver being I passed 16 long ago.

What we have here is a bunch of people who don't get the influense these rappers have over the young people they can't be talking guns and N and F this and F that, and they don't know that? Have some class Kendrick don't look like some know nothing thug be responsible.
