Also the Nike Cortez. Which was Nikes first commercially successful running flat and really helped jump start the company. Was first custom designed for Moore by Bowerman after Kenny suffered a stress fracture logging too many miles in shoes not meant for distance running.
Kenny & his wife, Bobbie stayed in the motel room next to my wife & I, at Oregon’s very first Marathon, Trails End, 1970, Seaside Oregon. Kenny won the race easily. it was my first marathon of twenty nine. Saw Kenny several times afterwards at Hayward Field including the Olympic Trials, 1972. Great runner, great writer, very creative. Rest In Peace, Kenny. Jerry & Zellah
RIP indeed. This reminds me of Moore's account of his post-race in Munich.
Kenny Moore, the legend wrote:
Kenny Moore, the legend wrote: Prefontaine saw me in the tunnel and ran over. "Kenny, you have got to be proud!" he said. "Out of all the billions of people in the world you were fourth. I order you to be proud!" I realized his race was over. "Pre, what did *you* get?" "I got f*cking fourth, man. It's the worst place you can ever finish."
From Bowerman and the Men of Oregon, of course. Which is a remarkable book that everyone here should read - it covers much more than Moore's own personal experiences, and is good throughout.
For several years I brought his book, "Best Efforts" with me to track meets at HF seeking his autograph. I was finally successful at one of the Prefontaine Classics. He actually apologize that it took me so long to find him! So down to earth and humble.
I said one of my favorite lines he had ever written was how he described Prefontaine competing in the AAU 3 mile his senior year in HS-- the first three finishers had crossed the line and turned and looked behind them and "saw the future running up at them." He said Prefontaine had cut that article out and carried it in his wallet. R.I.P. Kenny Moore.

Thats a cool story, thanks for sharing.
We lost a great one.
Afterwards, walking around, I spied Paula Radcliffe mulling about. I approached her and told her about the book . . . said you're not in it, but should be. She signed it too!
