Here's a reason why it could have been faked or at least tolerated by Hollywood: public perception of the Grammys and Hollywood elites is down right now. These people are viewed by a lot of the public as limousine liberal snowflakes who are out of touch. Especially white/Jewish Hollywood. High brow gays and softies. Ratings are down. It can't hurt to bring a little rock 'n roll back. I think that's why Ricky Gervais' speech was celebrated. The academy wants to get some edge back so they tolerate a little display of toxic masculinity. A little vulgarity for the masses. I think it's very self-conscious.
I'm not saying I think it was fake, although it could have been. I just think that's why this will be tolerated. And also it helps that both participants were black. Very socially relevant.
