I seriously doubt with all the opportunities he'll have left this season to perform we saw his best in March. I do think barring injuries this is the guy who becomes the first white American to run a sub10.00. I see a 9.98 sometime in 2022, will actually predict it.
If he only ends up at 9.98 for the year, straight up that's a disappointment. Unless we are talking 9.98 with minimal or no wind. But considering some of the places he'll be running, he should have many more +1.0 type winds (and above) in warm weather type opportunities. If all he musters is 9.98 in some of those situations....that's a dud, as far as I'm concerned.
Boling is a weird dude. When I give up expecting much from him, he usually drops something impressive. But then he tends to disappoint again after that, only to even out from there. So it's possible that he ends up around 10.05 basic at his peak for the year. In a 1.9 type wind that already should result in a 9.96/9.95 result....but that's reliant on weather help, of course, and still not that impressive in this era.
Buuuut, if he gets to a 10.02/9.99 level of basic, and ends up in a hot race with a 2ish wind? He's gonna make a mockery of your 9.95 "limit" and force you to change usernames again, WHATLEY.
Yawn. G League time. He's probably peaked for outdoors already. He probably will only run a couple more 10.0s and 10.1s this season then deteriorate precipitously by the time trials come around.
Why is anyone even excited about this? Boling is so irrelevant in American sprinting. We have so many better sprinters in our country. People whose names you dont even remember run 9.9. Why are we even talking about a guy who just broke 10.1. These are rhetorical questions btw, I know full well why people only care about Boling.

Give me the names of white American sprinters who as an NCAA athlete broke 10.10 in history. Who?
You said.....people you don't remember can run 9.9.....how many of them were NCAA white guys, yep......0.
Yes the thing with this guy is he is doing things we have never seen before, so have fun watching the show.

Most of us aren't obsessed with what race out sprinters are... Unless he is competing in the white world championships, it isn't going to matter when picking a team.
Last year he opened in 10.32 with a .9 headwind and peaked with a 10.13 with a 2 tailwind. Those performances are with in a couple hundreds of a second. His performance this year isn't noticeably different than the 10.11 he ran in 2019. I would love to see him take a step up in performance but I am not holding my breath.
Read up on Howard Drew the first Worlds Fastest Human, then Google Christophe LeMaitre, after that check up on...
Doug Williams, Ernie Davis, Deford Bailey, Hattie McDaneil, Willie Thrower, Jackie Robinson, Marlon Briscoe, you get far before you read ....first African American, why? Why do we need the first black woman judge?
Guess what, when Boling does break 10.00 the fact he is white will be talked about by the media. Yes it isn't.....nobody cares about race......when they obviously do.
Now.....
Boling is just a college kid and he is doing great, let's enjoy it.
It's because he opened in March with a 10.0x and because he is White and different. You're right he is one of a dozen sprinters, but it's not like he is really mediocre as qualified for the Olympic trials last year(performed terrible).
Christophe Lemaitre[2] (French pronunciation: [kʁistɔf ləmɛtʁ]; born 11 June 1990) is a French sprinter who specialises in the 100 and 200 metres. In 2010, Lemaitre became the first white athlete to break the 10-second barrier in an officially timed 100 m event.

^This was my essential thinking, but his 60m improvement raises the possibility that his 2022 race was done differently than his previous years’ races—which would give reason to hope that he could improve from here, throughout the season.
I haven’t seen good vid of this race and compared it to his races of previous years. Anybody have good enough vid to compare, or are we seeing the same old early-peaked athlete?

In the past few years, Devin Quinn and John Teeters. I’m sure if you go back further there are plenty of others.
There aren't.....plenty of others....at all. Actually Teeters and Quinn are the only white Americans who have broke 10.10. Kevin Little, Marty Kruelee, the 10.1 guys,
Will give Darel Newman some props for his 9.2 100 yard dash.
Hard to believe just how weak white sprinters really have been since the days of Dave Sime and Bobby Morrow. Only one white American has been world ranked in the 100m, that was Georgia Techs Ben Vaughn back in the 70's.

Just like we all know why you hate 'Yakob' and Matthew Boling.
Zero chance. He didn't even peak well last year and he still improved considerably. Unless you consider running a possible 10.04 with a +0.2 in May "downhill" from a 10.03 with a +1.9 in March.
He WILL improve. The question of it's only marginal (.05ish) or considerable (.1 or more).
Only way it plays out like you say is if he blows a hammy or something in the next few weeks. THEN he'd lose a proper peak.
So there is zero chance of him not running sub 10 and then you immediately list 2 cases where he doesn't break 10? I am not sure you understand what zero means. Plenty of people run fast early and then stuff happens.
Please refer to my question about the difference between a 10.03 (+1.9) and a 10.04 (-0.1). Then get back to me.

As a former white sprinter who was told by OTHER WHITE PEOPLE that I wasn't allowed to be a sprinter because I was white.....I have an interest in the subject, yes. Especially when I succeeded as a sprinter despite their views.
So, at least from my end, it's simply personal for me. Regardless of if he becomes a capable world beater over 100m or not, I want him to at least reach his individual potential, because I think ALL people deserve that if they so choose, regardless of if they are "too white" or "too short" or "too tall" (Bolt), or hell probably even "too black" in the case of guys from certain African areas (i.e. Kenya).
And it would be one thing if in my experience I had black coaches telling me I was "too white to sprint". I had cracker azz crackers forcing me to run 800s and 1600s (and some 400s) because of this BS. Like I said, it's personal.
If Boling can't break 9.9x or whatever, that's fine. But let him down figure that out, eh? Now if you're mad that the he gets attention cause he's white, that's your own issue. Life is more complicated than simply "well, he shouldn't get the attention, blah blah blah". I understand the critique, but isn't a full proof argument.

With a 9.90 out there with hardly any wind, why didn't anyone post that? Forget about 10.03 with 1.9 m/s. I had never even heard of Azamati, the new D2 record holder from Ghana.

I.e. he doesn't run faster than he did. You can come up with excuses why but at tend of the day you would need to be a moron to think there is a zero percent chance that he never runs faster this year.

Because theyre overrated simply because of the color of their skin. And their fans dont even try to hide that fact as evidenced by this thread. I dont hate either athlete, i just judge them on their merits rather than on the color of their skin.
