I am far from the fastest runner. At 50+ years of age, I have placed less than handful of times after racing for 4 decades. However, I am sure if I identified as a middle schooler, I could dominate the competition. Not sure I would brag about it, though
Thomas is ineligible under the USA Swimming's new rule. She cannot swim in the Olympic or World Championships trial.
But Thomas told Sports Illustrated recently that Thomas is hoping to continue swimming competitively after college and hopes to make it to the Olympics. This was well after USA Swimming announced its new policy.
I wouldn't be surprised if the ACLU and other groups like the misnomered Human Rights Campaign already are preparing a lawsuit against USA Swimming alleging that its new "trans inclusion" policy is unfairly discriminatory. A major aim of the ACLU, HRC and many other supposedly "progressive" organizations today is to put an end to all sex segregation and safeguards meant to protect and provide fairness for those of the female sex, making all facilities and services either mixed sex or - if segregation continues to exist as it does now sports - to base the segregation on claimed gender identity, not on sex.
Also, given the various ways Thomas has been catered to by all the grownups in charge in the Penn administration and athletics department, the Ivy League and the NCAA; the way Thomas has been fawned over and lionized by the mainstream media; and the fact that the NCAA decided to bend the rules just for Thomas after USA Swimming announced its new relatively strict policy, I suspect Thomas believes and completely expects that sports governing bodies will continue to make exceptions for Thomas. After all, it's been reported in some press outlets that Thomas boasts of being "the trans Jackie Robinson."
Plus, there's nothing that makes some people with certain kinds of personalities feel more invincible, self-assured and convinced that they'll always get their way as much as the super high of narcissistic supply.
I see that you studiously avoided the use of any pronouns whatsoever; just use "Thomas" for everything. Not a bad solution, and seems to work a little better than "they", which is just way too awkward.
I'm all for personal freedom...dress as you wish, modify your body as you wish, use any name and pronoun you wish. I'm even for trans people being able to use the public restroom of their new gender (I mean, you really have to be on board with this...there are some transgender men with beards that you can't tell were born female, and they would freak out any woman who saw them in the women's restroom). Really the rule for restrooms should just be "Don't do anything illegal in there." We've seen time and time again women who don't want to wait for a stall head to the men's restroom, and no one thinks anything of it other than "more power to those women!".
BUT, when it comes to athletics, I'm sorry, an obvious unfair advantage. Should not be allowed. It's stupid that it has been allowed for this long.
The vast majority of people, left and right, agree that trans women competing against biological women is crazy.
transwomen are women.
women should compete against women.
there is nothing crazy about either of those statements.
Lia is a woman, so she should compete against women. I think it’s more accurately called “crazy” for you to say that she is a woman sometimes (in her classes, at a restaurant, in the the bathroom), but when she swims in a pool she magically turns into a man.

The Bulgometer is a fairly accurate tool, so don't let science blind you:

So you are just fine and dandy with a creepy old man sharing the women's bathroom with a 5-year-old girl?

We both acknowledge trans women and cis women are women, yet they are not exactly the same.
I can take your statement and change it to “men compete against men. Sugar Ray Leonard is a man and so he should be able to compete against Mike Tyson who is a man” while ignoring that one is a welterweight and the other a heavyweight so there is an inherent competitive disadvantage.
That’s what we’re talking about here. Your logic fails because your premise “women should compete against women” is not specific enough.
I believe that trans women have the right to compete in recreational sports and when prize money is very small or non existent. DIII could probably be included in that. Local races should DEFINITELY be included in that. A couple hundred dollars of prize money is not worth as much as inclusion in a sport that's done for fun.
Equality to me means that when it comes to high-stakes competitions such as major D1/D2 collegiate competition or pro sports, our trans friends' performances should be roughly equivalent to those that they had in their age grade in their assigned gender at birth. If that cannot happen, then obviously more science and work needs to be done to decide what to do. Unfortunately we are stuck in this messy period and feelings are getting hurt, and both sides continue to scream at each other without any real mutual understanding. This is obviously a very gray area, but why do very few people act like it is?
Lia is a woman but the NCAA's policy has failed. How else could a woman who could not even make the NCAA national meet pre-transition suddenly win the women's meet as a trans person? It's not about being a man or a woman in the pool, it's about equivalent performances.

Well we allow creepy old men to share restrooms with 5-year old boys and I never heard anyone complain about it. And honestly things are probably worse in men’s restrooms with urinals. In women’s restrooms everyone uses there their own stall, there’s not going to be open genitals on display.
Thomas is an obnoxious man. All the mental gymnastics, insane viewpoints and rationalizations, but but Phelps had advantages, will hand the keys to the White House over to the Republicans. Then you'll see some rules and policies you don't like. A little common sense now would go a long way, but the radicals love rubbing it in people's faces while they can. This just causes bigger swings of the pendulum.

Not a bad idea, prioritizing inclusion for fun runs and potentially DIII. I could get behind it. What about high school?

For swimming or track and field, it is specific enough. NCAA swimming doesn’t have weight classes.
However, let me address your irrelevant boxing example. If Mike Tyson dropped enough pounds to become a welterweight, he would be allowed to box Sugar Ray, yes? Isn’t that what we are talking about with transathletes? Once an athlete transitions (goes up or down in weight, changes gender), then they are eligible to compete? If you are saying that Thomas’s prior gender disqualifies her from her competing in her new gender, then you should also think that boxers who were once 200 lbs. are disqualified from ever boxing against someone who is 160lbs., or am I understanding your argument incorrectly?

I am betting on the middle schoolers. Not many 50+ year old guys are running sub 60s quarters or sub 520 miles.....
The question I have is - is it true that Lia has kept Lia's Testicles/penis, and that Lia is a "lesbian" and that Lia has been visibly arroused by teammates?
This was mentioned on another message board as being from anonymous sources inside the team. Just asking here if anyone else has heard that or has a link?

This is a mental ilness to think like this. It really is.
Transwomen are not women. they are men that have attempted to transition to women but they ARE NOT women in a biological sense AT ALL.
This is an objective fact.
I am simply stunned how liberals have completely lost their ability to reason logically over the past 15 years.
