Found this site in it's infancy. A high school runner just discovering the sport and trying to read as much as I could about it. Here are some highlights.
--They were the first place I could find where they were openly discussing Lance being a drug cheat back when Lance was a KING. It's hard to overstate how entranced by Lance everyone was in the days he was racking up his TdF titles and how ostracized the few people who suggested he might be a cheat really were. Like this was even before the yellow bands. Letsrun takes a lot on the chin, and much of it they deserve, but massive points to them for this.
--Wejo's Regina Jacobs interview. Regina broke the WR in the 1500 indoors at the ripe young age of...*checks notes* 40. Wejo hammered her and rightfully so.
Some not so great things...
--"Great white hope"--big talk about the Great White Hope, the next WHITE distance runner to take on the sea of Africans. Have to say, as a non white runner in an overwhelmingly white (in the US) sport, this didn't feel too great, and if I'm being honest my first taste of racism came from observing the distance running circuit and how fans discussed African-born runners.
--The discussion of high school girls. As a high school girl at the time, but one that wasn't going to ever be discussed on these boards it was pretty horrifying to see how casually grown men discussed the appearance of young girls on these boards. There was one in particular, a nationally ranked girl that got chewed up and spit out on these boards with impunity. And she was just a kid at the time. It was disgusting to think that people were perfectly fine doing that. I never saw anything like that with high school boys. Also people were really quick to discuss and make assumptions about teenagers' character. There was a nationally ranked girl who quit her team because of an injury. She was called spoiled and a prima donna on here. Like the kid quit because she was injured and her coaches were forcing her to run. Good grief.
