A prodigious poster once famously "quit" slow twitch and had a whole statement basically about how it's been fun, but now it's full of a-holes, etc. how the place sucks...she ended with "Paulo knows how to find me." And the rest is history.

It should have stayed on Slowtitch. It never made sense here.
Cain has a swimming foundation. There are plenty of articles detailing that she was very much into swimming until she became a national class runner.
Swimming really is the least important event in triathlon. A triathlete's swimming skills really only need to be serviceable to be in the mix. She's already got a swimming foundation from a young age. Open water triathlon swimming is a slightly different beast than lap swims, but it's not like she's going to have to completely learn a new discipline.
It's really about the bike. Short course triathlon bicycling can be crazy. One has to have the skill, talent, and fitness to get through the bike leg and onto the run in decent position. There are a lot of nasty crashes during the bicycle portion of many of the shorter course tris. One really has to be good on the bike podium.
I suspect she's still got what it takes to be competitive during the run?
Honest to God. Can we leave the poor girl alone? A phenomenal talent that was swindled and subsequently horribly abused certainly could have gone DI in swimming (as if this is even remotely relevant to her running career). She seems to have finally been finding some peace and consistency, why not let her be?
Bunch of grown adults pouncing at every opportunity to trounce and demean a woman for not living up to her high school potential. Shame on Wejo and Rojo for letting these senseless echo chamber beatings take place. GTFO
I wish her luck, but it is not going to be easy. A lot of runners have some swimming and/or biking in their background that they may have done at the youth level. However, if you have not done any 'serious' biking and/or swimming in years, it is to take a while to get to a competitive level. The other major problem Mary is going to run up against is time and money, triathlons take a lot of both.

How is she "finding some peace" when she still goes on about Salazar "fat shaming" her at every opportunity and with her lawsuit even after the SafeSport arbitrator report rejected her "fat shaming" claims? I'll stop when she stops spreading misinformation about Salazar "fat shaming" when the SafeSport report factually showed it was about sporting performance, not fat shaming.

Mary Cain has rich 1% parents. Her "job" at Tracksmith is what any of us would really call a job.

Unlike a lot of posters out there, I am not going to draw my own conclusions about what went down precisely between she and Salazar. It's inarguable that he is a gnarly dude that profitted highly off of female athletes which rarely comes without problems.
She was in a more corporate role with Tracksmith that seemed to fit her well while popping up here and there with workouts/races. She is past her prime, she will not be competitive anymore and my guess is she wants to shut the door on this chapter in her life.
I just wonder at what possesses the LR community to keep dragging her or even including her in the discourse. Y'all are obsessed with a female runner that didn't pan out for a number of reasons, some that were out of her control.
She suffered at the hands of Al Sal. I'd talk about it too.
She would have had no chance at going D1 in swimming. Her 100fr time didn’t even crack the top 2000 for her age at the time. No chance at all. Girls who actually went D1 were all significantly faster.
I'm glad to see the huge amount of negative votes for the OP. The vote system is really helping the messageboard. The whole tone of the OP's post was fake news. Cain never said she easily could have been a D1 swimmer. We have changed the title of the thread and added this disclaimer to the first post.
LRC Note: What the OP wrote is factually incorrect. He or she wrote that Cain said she "easily" could have been a D1 swimmer when Cain actually said she "probably" could have been D1: “I could have probably gone D1 as a swimmer,” she said of her potential in the pool. “By seventh grade, it was becoming apparent that I’d be a better runner.”
We have changed the title of the thread so that it is now factually correct. It was initially entitled "Mary Cain Becomes a Pro Triathlete, Claims She Could Easy Have Been a D1 Swimmer"
Rojo, do you realize D-1 swimming, top to bottom is more competitive than D-1 XC and distance running (for argument sake-distance is 3000m and longer). Are not there only about (30 to 35)% swimming programs at D-1 universities? The rare high school athlete who competes at both S&D and XC and T&F and demonstrates equal success, one will be recruited by more successful XC and T&F programs compared to S&D programs. How do you know there is any merit to Mary Cain's statement? Give us her 50 yard to 1650 yard freestyle times &/or give us 50m to 1500m freestyle times.

What suffering? The entirety of Mary Cain's "fat shaming" claim against Salazar was REJECTED by the SafeSport arbitrator. And yet she still goes on about it and even filed a lawsuit that is based entirely on that "fat shaming"

Wrong , wrong and wrong. Swimming for draft legal is the most important event. If you are not making the front or 2nd pack you basically are not in the race. If you do not come out in the 20 in the swim your chances of podiuming are really low.
Biking is important, but not as much, being comfortable, able to sit in and bridge gaps. Mary will have a target on her back from day 1 because they will know she can run faster than all of them. She will need to be smart and strategic.
