mccabe had a 65.8 last lap in her best 3k time at the fast boston track vs pros and tuohy in december
2 months later, after dealing w injuries, tuohy runs for the first time after that 3k race in boston at the 5k acc championship at virginia track .. and kicks to a fast 66.0 last lap, beat the second runner over 10 seconds
Ok, a slower track & an xtra 2K, but those aren't the biggest diffs btwn the two “last laps.” The ACC race was more like one of Tuohy’s HS blowouts. The Boston 3K was a proper nat’l stage scrap with runners just as strong & as quick as Tuohy. McCabe finished with class & pro-level poise, going way wide in the final 50-60m to kick past a chugging Tuohy, two others and lapped runners as well. Tuohy ran bravely but closed like Pre in ‘72.
Watch all races from the meet here: https://flosports.link/3ELdesyKatelyn Tuohy goes on the attack in the final laps of the women's 3,000 at the 2021 BU Shar...
Congratulations to Katelyn. I notice during competition. The women will not move over and give lane courtesy when getting lapped. Along with laying on the track after crossing the finish line.
Some of the runners did move over but that large group didn't and the runners had to move into the third lane to pass them.
Crazy thing is she ended up getting the last qualifying time by 0.05 seconds. The MTWest champion was given a 26 second altitude allowance. The same runner ran 16:08 at BU and 15:47 at sea level on the oversized track at the Husky Invite, so the allowance seems generous. But alls well the ends well. A couple of the runners that moved over were likely the difference.

perhaps lucky, but looking at the qualifiers if Wayment does not run, Tuohy and Chmiel could place pretty high in the 5000 - while the 3000 could be a tough field with likely Wayment, McCabe, Gregory, Valby (tho she did not run SEC), etc
oh my 0.5!!? at 16th or at 15th? wait how did you calculate that
She is 16th fastest at 15:41.5 Mazza-Downie of NM is next with a 15:41.56 (converted). Some runners such as Wayment and/or Gregory may not run 5,000 though - but no guarantees on that. But 16 is 16.
But honestly she has no chance to run a hard 5K and then compete in the 3K at a high level
So she could have maybe won the 5K and the 3K if she ran more conservative at acc's
I think the 3 k is on the second day at Nationals so chances are they'll be more Runners doubling back and it'll be an easier race if you just run that
Anyway I guess it is what it is, it was something to shoot for and some motivation, but I think just focusing on one of those races at Nationals makes more sense
Only wayment and Gregory will be tough 2 beat and both might skip 5k.... tuohy must race smart... no pushing the pace or leading... wait till 400 or 500 and make her move.... she is peaking at right time....

hahaha cant seem to accept that tuohy developed a good kick now? didn't you all praised mccabe's kick in that 3k race but now that tuohy topped it, you are quick to say was poise and class 😂😂
to all naysayers, katelyn tuohy is getting better and faster, yall can just cry ab it.

that acc 5k was such a smart race, i hope katelyn remembers it clearly and does it at nationals, she has big chance of winning if the race was like that, a 32s or faster last lap, only few runners can match that
I hope you're trolling. She has no chance to do that. And there are many kickers in this race so she doesn't really have to worry that much about Kik. She just has to be close to Mercy and hope she can all kick her. Assuming wayment doesn't run

well, i hope you are trolling too, mercy??? chelengat is quite overrated for the past 2 seasons... and shes not in top share this season.. i mean, by just looking at mercy chelengat's recent track races.. she looks so winded in her times which arent even that fast.. she seems to be not good at tactical racing either, and her times arent really dropping unlike the other top senior runners
Then there's obviously a bunch of other girls who could potentially Step Up
But I mean I'm not trolling, Mercy is one of the top runners in college for the last two seasons so she definitely will have a chance
I mean I think it's a much saner prediction to say that Mercy could potentially Win It, then Katelyn Tuohy could take off from the gun and lead the race the whole time,
If she's not that good of a runner why did Mercy just finished second in Cross Country and the winner is no longer in college so she's currently the best women's distance runner in the country till someone else beats her

15:33 isnt fast ... theres probably at least 15 girls who can run that time this season, but we'll see...
