I love this site and the "journalists" that run it. Such nonsense to get clicks. "Haymaker", such b/s. He reached out and grabbed the guy on the head, albeit aggressively. Fast forward to 2:26 to see the "haymaker". Congratulations, you're over dramatizing like the rest of the media.
He hit him on top of the head because he was too far away. Not because he didnt intend to throw. JH is at least as popular as Harbaugh and has more support in A2. He is the best recruiter in the country as of late. But if you are going to do something this galactically stupid, dont do it when you are underperforming. This year has been a mystery, and I think it gets to him. You cant punch someone in college hoops. I think as someone said, he should be gone, but the gray area of punch vs swipe to the mellon will be just enough to keep him on after some sort of suspension. Dumbo move.
Anger is an emotion of children. Mature people do not get angry. He should have taken note and laughed it off. I would have smiled and shaken Gard's hand and told him that I wouldn't forget.
Of course, mature people get angry. They just don't hit people over losing a basketball game.
Whats right isnt always acceptable. Wisc coach deserved to be punched in the face. And BTW, he grabbed JH as he was going by ...aggressively. A lot of people do deserve to be dotted, but you just cant do it. How many NCAA and NFL coaches were pi$$ed off at a late 4th quarter trick play to go up by 30? Tense handshake after the game, but you dont throw. How many people want to punch nick sabban square in the grill? But nobody does.

The head Wisconsin coach, Gard, reached out and stopped Howard from brushing by him because he obviously wanted to talk to him. Howard reacted by grabbing Gard's sweater and pointing his finger in his face. The guy that got slapped/punched was another Wisconsin coach, not the coach (Gard) who stopped Howard as he walked by.
Howard is clearly a sore loser. He didn't want to shake Gard's hand because he was pissed about the timeout. If Michigan wants to press with 15-20 seconds left, then Gard calling a timeout is reasonable. Howard's coaching decision led to a decision by Gard. Howard should have just shaken his hand and moved on. Gard didn't grab Howard as much as he put his hand out to pause him as he walked by. I don't see anything wrong with it. Watch a lot of these games and you'll see coaches touching each other.

People have been trying to unscramble the audio to see what was said. Apparently when Gard stopped Howard, he said something like "You're the sixth best guy in the Fab 5".
In amongst all of this we are also seem to be overlooking the simple reality that this was all over calling of timeouts. Last time I checked a college basketball timeout is either 30 or 75 seconds and Wisconsin took two timeouts in the final minute. I mean reality check here people - 2 minutes and 30 seconds (maximum) of timeouts in the last minute of a game sent you over the edge? Really? We aren't talking about a team sending out its starters in the final minute, up by 16 points playing full court D, dunking on guys and celebrating - it's 2 timeouts. I mean if this is what gets you so triggered you shouldn't be a coach of anything, you should be working on yourself with a therapist.
Interested to see how this plays out - still as yet he is employed which may just be because of Presidents day and tomorrow it shakes out but if he keeps his job it will be a classic case of privilege towards, hold on - this can't be right... or can it.... ^^
The timeout was a dick move by the Wisconsin coach and Howard was right to be angry about it but should not have thrown the punch. I would like to know what the coach said to Howard.
If the timeout was a dick move then so was pressing by Michigan. Neither should cause a coach to throw a punch...and you idiots playing semantics with what happened can gfy.
One of the many ironies of the lower class is considering people to be "tough" for engaging in childish behavior. This coach handled the situation the same way a 3-year-old might. To normal people, throwing a temper tantrum like a petulant toddler is the exact opposite of being tough. But somehow by South Side logic, the guy behaved this way because he's a "tough guy."
I don't think so. If they wanted to get rid of him, yes, they'd fire him like Washington did with football coach Jimmy Lake after he shoved/punched a guy wearing a helmet.
But Howard is new on the job and an alum.
I think he'll just be suspended.
And I doubt anyone in the national media will point out that here we have a case of a black guy punching a white guy and not losing his job. If a white coach did this to a black coach, he'd be much more likely to be gone yet all we hear in this country is how bad it is for minorities in this country.
Why do you people have to always make it about race, huh? Just can't stop with the victim mentality, right?
So Mark Few gets a DUI and a 1 game suspension. Let's see what happens to Howard.
DUI far more dangerous than slap-fighting in the handshake line.
Don't get me wrong, this behavior is obviously wrong. But it's funny what we excuse and what we don't.
Who is “we”? Societal Strawmans.
This is good TV and fun to watch and debate but nobody will deny the leniency we give to people who make actually dangerous decisions like driving under the influence.
This is far more interesting to me than discussing if Howard was justified for slapping some dude in the handshake line (obviously not).

We? Different people have different feelings and opinions.

Well, what are your thoughts on Few then? DUI deserves far more than 1 game IMO.

DUI does deserve more. But Howard deserves a suspension for sure- that doesn't change. In a country with 330 million, not every act and punishment will be in proportion to the others. Don't do the crime and you don't have to worry. Most know this.

Well, there are ~350 D1 men's college BBall head coaches so we are talking about a pretty small population! Maybe ~30 at programs the stature of Zags/UM.

Yes it does.If I were in charge in that situation I’d levy more than one game, maybe even firing. But I wasn’t. And it really shouldn’t be the deciding factor in what Howard gets. Mr. Strawman.

Well, I never said it should be a deciding factor. Here we are on a discussion thread and you seem to be very upset that I want to discuss things. Cheers.
