NATO already said they wouldn't expand east of Germany in 1990. Then they expanded east all the way to Russia. Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Georgia and Ukraine are all that's left and there's absolutely no reason in the world Russia should take any guarantees from NATO or the US.
NATO and the US directly caused this conflict.
Europeans do not have the stomach to win a war with Russia and the US doesn't even have the stomach to fight a war with cavemen in pajamas.
Don't those sovereign countries you mentioned have the right to associate with and make treaties with whomever they want? They chose NATO.
Now Putin has been threatening to use force to prevent Ukraine from doing the same. There's really no defending that.
Hopefully this was all just a game of chicken and Putin just swerved away.
Not without a response they don't. Canada has the right to turn communist and become a Chinese proxy. The US would never allow it.
If a nation considers something to be an existential threat you can't expect them to just bend over.
Many in Canada view Russia as a friendly nation , and view the USA as a nation you cannot trust . Mods can delete this , and the other views supporting the Russian figure skater . Go ahead and down vote this . With the exception of Norther Alberta and Saskatoon , that have a high percentage Ukrainian immigrants . I posted that I support the figure skater , and that was quickly deleted .

What is "many"? I seriously doubt that is a consensus opinion.

Trump tried to improve relations with Russia and the left called him a Russian puppet.
There's no reason in the world to remain enemies with Russia in 2022.

It is a water cooler opinion . American’s have a hard time believing that the general population of Europe nato nations hate Americans . I don’t care either way , but Russia is not a threat to Canada. The USA is a big economic threat to Canada depending on the power of special interest groups . The American media is a sickening institution , and most in Canada don’t believe the anti-Putin messages sent out by the US media.

I was curious, so I looked it up...
"According to a 2017 Pew Global Attitudes Project survey, 27% of Canadians have a favourable view of Russia, with 59% expressing an unfavourable view.[1]"
The federal government is now warning against any travel to Ukraine and urged all Canadians currently in the country to leave Monday as concerns about war with Russia escalate.

The only reason there is a Canada is because of the United States. Let's not kid ourselves. The US spent TRILLIONS defending the world from the Soviets while countries like Canada spent all of their money on themselves. Imagine how nice the US would be today if we hadn't wasted so much time and money defending other countries.
America loves starting wars . The American media are another PR arm of the Dems. No one in Canada is thanking the US for starting the war in the Middle East . Are we to believe the US Intel could not tell the difference in a fusion rod and a plumbing pipe in Afghan.
I don't really like this white privy country in u do I I Canada because they are mostly impotent on helping other countries in peril such as the Ukraine, but I do understand why they cower...
You'll notice quite a discord if you listen to Putin's public statements and compare what he says in Russian with what our media reports that he says. Why would the media not report things a they are?
We're coming up on 0100 GMT Feb 16, d-day, h-hour, according to the US intel leakers. Get ready, here it comes! Less than 30 minutes.
Putin reportedly has pulled back his Troops, NATO is CAUTIOUSLY claiming Victory.
U.S., 1941 to 1945 rotated U.S. Marines and U.S. Sailors out of Pacific and rotated fresh Marines & Sailors to Pacific. How many metres or kilometres did Putin pull back his troops from Russia/Ukrainian border? Obviously pulling back 100m means nothing but pulling back over 100 kilometres may mean something.
It's about great powers having spheres of influence. Putin has drawn a red line and will not let another former Soviet republic join NATO.
It's almost like the roles of the Cold War have been reversed. We're trying to run the planet and Russia has adopted a policy of containment. NATO has long since outlived its original mission and has morphed into a sort of modern-day Comintern. Sweden is actually considering joining -- that should tell you all you need to know about NATO.
Political scripts writers could write a Seinfeld epi or a speech for Biden . You can trust the imbecile American media to frame it as ground breaking . Biden promises renewable energy as an American priority ,then buys a GMC Yukon for a family member weeks later . Who drafted the eminent Russian invasion for today, got the message to the networks ,then have the networks report it as facts . Politics and the Media is a sh1t show .
I also support the Russian figure skater , and would not spend a second watching American nandrolone user SH run a sponsored time trial.
