Why would any coach EVER massage one their athletes?? Huge red flag

UK Athletics has an official code of conduct published last April as follows:

2. RESPONSIBILITIES – PERSONAL STANDARDS

As a responsible athletics coach, I will:

2.2 never engage in the massage of an athlete under the age of 18 years. I understand that I require

an up-to-date and recognised qualification in sports massage or another relevant qualification

from a recognised body or authority to engage in the massage of an athlete over 18 years

Are we saying that NO man should be massaging young female athletes or just their coaches? I don't know much about the benefits of a massage BUT I do know lots people think it's very beneficial. Now, if Alberto thought that it was beneficial - aided recovery, and so on -what would have been the alternative to him doing it? Paying a female masseuse? Doing without a massage. But, then again, did Alberto give male athletes massages?

The alternative would have been to massage without penetration. Probably wouldn't have been as big of a deal if he did it that way.

I ran for a Pac-12 school in the late 80's and have to admit that I thought it was questionable when I saw the head coach "stretching" some of the female runners. The positioning of their bodies and the nature of the stretches made me think that a female coach or one of the other female runners should have been doing it. It was pretty much impossible for him to not see things that he shouldn't have been seeing.

Not as insidious as coaches dating and marrying their younger athletes.

That's quite funny and apparently someone has little clue about the larger world of collegiate athletics. Sure, maybe at a larger school, or well funded school you have a dedicated trainer, or a GA that is dedicated to your team. But at probably most schools, they have a a few trainers spread over the entire athletic department, and good luck if that trainer is ever around for cross country or track, and definitely not traveling with you.

So understand why some coaches get certified and then work on their own athletes.

Just because it's printed, does not mean it's proof. He is denying it.

How looooooooooong have you been around.? Hell, you're not even a registered user.

Certainly alarming allegations, but proof needs to be sorted out.

Agree 100% on AlSauce - that is just absurd. In my program we had an excellent qualified massage therapist who was also a coach. At our small program there was no one else who could do it. With the level of tightness and soreness I would experience frequently after hard workouts, massages and ice baths were critical. Runners need to think more critically at the pro level about all these things.

Use Nikes vast resources to have the best massage therapist massage his athletes?

The team had a masseuse, but Salazar sent him away so he could massage his athletes behind closed doors (yes, including male).

Seriously, is anyone surprised? We are talking about a person here who:

1) doped himself as an athlete with testo

2) got his first star athlete banned for testo

3) is currently banned for three other anti-doping rule violations

4) had two of his other athletes on the likely doping list

5) gave one of his star athletes testo meds

6) sent drugs across the border in hollowed books

7) tried to force himself onto one of his athletes

8) regularly watched his athletes weigh themselves, wearing next to nothing

9) regularly commented on their boobs and butts

10) sent the masseuse away so he could massage his athletes behind closed doors

and now

11) tried to penetrate his athlete(s) with his finger.
