Correct. I see my athletes as one of my kids. My children. When they come back to visit while in college or as young adults later I can still only see them as one of my own kids. I really don't get the coach that gets "feelings" for their athletes.

This is a great thread, if only because Otter sets forth the kind of maturity that is required to coach and mentor young people. I think the rules apply irrespective of gender.
If I were a coach starting out, I would commit Otter's input here to memory and hold myself to that standard.

Unlikely. Science Shows that in free societies the gender differences are actually larger than in less free ones. This shows genetic differences between sexes are responsible not society or education. Buz liberals are anti science

I get that you are just a coach/teacher/whatever, but just because you got a little certificate that says you passed training doesn’t mean you understand this Victims and survivors do not all feel the same way and we don’t need your permission to speak about our experience and concerns.

Meh. It just wasn't that interesting of a question. And, I basically have answered it! I've already said that I enjoyed my coach in HS, but I woudn't be opposed to women coaches, obviously.

it really is accepted current status of science so it should be easy to find out. quick research showed this new paper

I ran in HS and college back in the mid to late 80's and of the three coaches I had, two of them had rumors of inappropriate actions with female runners. One of them was fired for it. This has been a real problem within our sport for a long long time. The opportunities for abuse/line crossing whatever you want to call it are so plentiful.
If I were the parent of a female athlete, I would be extremely guarded about when, where, and how much time they spent with a male coach.
Wasmikepenceright - you don't know the person, so your comments are rank speculation. You likely think you are right so no use engaging with you. In any event, it would pay to give heed to Otter's input. I have no reason to be taken in by pious types. It just isn't in my dashboard, I ran competitively in the 70's and merely stay connected to the local running scene out of appreciation for the sport. I have a successful and long career unrelated to athletics and am fortunate the athletic scholarship worked for me. Cheers.

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I am lucky enough to have an assistant coach that is also Safesport trained who truly cares about the kid's safety.
To the other poster's comment at the end of page 3, I agree in that school systems are not putting preventative measures in place. I have worked for two different school systems that are very concerned about where every penny goes but there is no guidance for coaches interacting with athletes.
If coaches are trained, they could identify when other fellow coaches are not following the proper protocols. This would reduce incidences by real numbers and drive out people who are looking for opportunities to take advantage of kids.
My track coach in college was a woman (I’m a male). I don’t think it made any difference so not sure why men coaching women would be an issue.

To be honest OP, you are the creepy guy.
You have definetely problems with females. The question alone speaks for itself.
If you learn e.g. an instrument there are female and male teacher who teach male/females alone, and there is not the least question about that.
Sexual humiliation has something to do with having power over a person. As coach/teacher you are in that position. Low self-consciousness of the coach/teacher are often the root cause.

Agree 100% on this. Even if men behave themselves and stay pro, there is always risk for a woman to take advantage of the situation and play politics. Now, that is unlikely if the man is mature and professional. The key is to keep everything simple, no emotion, just the facts, etc.
