How do morons like you even manage to navigate this world? The use of "they" to refer to singular people goes back almost 800 years and I guarantee you use it that way constantly. You want to be rude to people and so you're obstinately insisting on purposefully being wrong just to do it.

It is correct and practical, people default to it all the time without realizing. It is more practical than being intentionally hurtful.

Maybe it’s because they don’t have a choice to enter a non-binary category? Many races (see NYRR events and the Philly Distance HM) are starting to offer a non-binary category for athletes like Hiltz- even offering prize money.

If Nikki wakes up feeling like a man, Nikki should use he/him. If Nikki wakes up feeling like a woman, Nikki should use she/her. If Nikki is truly two personas, the other should not exist when the other is present. If Nikki is both at the same time, Nikki is just like everyone else, with varying degrees of male and female traits.
Nikki is a good runner though. Nice stride and looks well trained. Tough to make money from running. Needs to break 2, 4, 9, and 16 minutes to be more competitive though.
I’m glad Nikki competes in the category of Nikki’s biological sex. Nikki is setting a good example that all transgender athletes should follow.
