Yes, that Allyson and Mary “blame men for being the source of all their problems” is laughable. Crazy talk.

It’s a good name not only because it references a commonly known myth about running that is part of most people’s basic education, but also because since Nike is the winged goddess of victory, it’s choosing another female mythological figure to set up a group for women by women who had bad experiences at Nike. It’s quite a clever and subtle shade.
Ok, Mary, no matter how you try to justify it, Atalanta is a dumb name that every phone and search engine auto-corrects to Atlanta.

Have you ever seen them blame women? No? Precisely my point.

You’ll have to do better than that, loony.

Just searched “Atal…” and my search engine filled in “Atalanta” as the 3rd option. This is because searches pick up what you’ve talked about in other places. If yours is correcting to Atlanta, it’s probably because you’ve searched or posted about Atlanta. But again, most people don’t find doing a basic Google search to explain things they don’t know arduous. Some even find learning things interesting.
There’s a lot of good reasons given in this thread as to why New York City is a bad choice, etc. Those are all reasonable points about why this group may not be successful. Being mad that most people are conversant in Greek mythology but you are threatened by knowing things is not a good reason, sorry.
Oh sorry, by “New York” I don’t mean York the English city or New Jersey, or Yorktown or Newton. I know names that sound similar are difficult for you.

How much did Mary Cain pay you to post on here to defend her poor naming?
Yes, there must be some conspiracy. How else would I notice the stupidity on this thread and board in general were I not paid?
You realize everyone can tell you’re ignorant for free, right?
it's a bad name
The naming on this running group "Atalanta" is clearly a case of cultural appropriation and needs to be changed immediately or I will cancel this running group.

You sound like the kind of person who ends up booking a plane to, like, London, Ontario instead of London, England because “they sound the same.” Life must be hard when reading and words confuse you!
Why are you taking out your hate on me? I didn't do anything to you. Atalanta just not a good name. I guess that makes me uncultured because I didn't learn Greek mythology in pre-school like every other American obviously did. It's just not a good name, sorry.
You don’t have to like the name. Most running groups have dumb or boring or non-descript or unmemorable names because no one cares what a running group is called.
What I object to is people on this thread not knowing a basic common knowledge reference, trying to clown people because “why is it called Atlanta when it’s in New York?” thinking they’re being clever, and then getting defensive and angry when people point out what the reference is and that using a search engine is easy.
And the fact that people have to reach so hard to criticize a women’s running group that they’re now claiming “they can’t get athletes because of the name” is silly. There’s lots of reasonable things to criticize - the location, the coaching staff, the lack of runners, the set-up - being dismissive of a running group because Wikipedia is hard is not one.

Don’t worry, women don’t want you around them so it won’t be a problem for you. And normal men who are comfortable in their manhood aren’t triggered by women talking.
Honestly, for years this board was full of raging against Alberto. People constantly talked about Rupp certified courses, drug use, fixed races etc. Nobody was more hated. But then some women said that yes, Salazar was abusive, and since there’s nothing men hate on this board more than women now Salazar is their hero and all the women are crazy b——s.
Alberto has become a martyr instead of your punching bag precisely because of people like Cain and Felix blaming men for everything. I, too, remember when threads on LRC about Salazar were mostly against him but because of over the top comments and persecution of Salazar by people that like to blame men, the tide reversed. Not quite the effect you were aiming for, eh?
No, Berto is a clown. Full stop. Other people may be clowns, too. However that doesn't change that Berto is a clown.

Seems far more likely that this troll delights in pinning blame on women for various transgressions he conjures up. This site is an incel haven, after all.
Talk about projection. You're the only angry and defensive one in this thread.
I don't have to like the name? Good 'cause I don't. Just sharing my opinion, which is apparently a common opinion.
This fuss about the name reminds me of when James Joyce’s son denied access to copyright material to a researcher at Purdue - forcing them to significantly re-write their book - because he decided the “Boilermakers” was a vulgar name.

Nah, I’m not angry. I just think there’s a lot of willfully dumb people on this board who think not knowing things is a virtue and who get offended at the idea of actually reading. I’m entertained in pointing this out.
Sadly, these people scream constantly about how wokes are overtaking the education system but then reveal they don’t know the very classic and basic knowledge they’re allegedly defending. I think it’s funny.
As they say, no one ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American public.

Well in the same vein Atalanta is going broke overestimating the sophistication of the American public. Which is why it's not a good name, back to my point.
I don't think anyone is suggesting they rebrand as "Juggs"
In Brand Marketing: Atalanta is a horrible name. They did not focus group it and/or run it by their target consumer.
Hello Me Too! When did Allyson Felix blame men for all of her problems??? What???
