BYU is a joke - Two 24-yr old BYU athletes won 2021 NCAA XC

For the last damn time, Whitni didn't serve a mission and is a normal redshirt. Is this entire thread full of full blown idiots?

I mean, I think it's pretty obvious most would be better distance runners at 22-24 years old than 20-22. Idk what needs to happen but most are professional or out of the ncaa system at the same age. Athletes were also granted another year because of COVID. That could also factor in.

I feel like Mantz also drank the koolaid & stayed in college when he didn't need to. Said that offers weren't great to turn pro during the pandemic. Has the feel of desperate college football/basketball coaches just trying to keep a guy around for an extra year so the team is better when they could start cutting a real paycheck. Mantz gave up a year of money in a sport where there are no guarantees. Plus if he ran well as a pro you have bonuses and other contracts down the road.

What is wrong with some of you? The anger and bigotry is sick. Everyone has exactly the same opportunity. They are not training on their mission. Ortin used a Covid and regular redshirt.

Do any of you have above 2nd grade reading comp skills?

Racial bigotry gets people banned. Why does religious bigotry not? The mods need to do a better job here.

So why don't you go take two years completely off of training to do a mission trip in some other country and then come back and see how close you are to your old PR's when you start back running. Too bad you're a coward and won't do it since it would prove you wrong and to be be an idiot.

So she graduated high school in 2016 but is 24 years old? Do kids graduate at 19 now or something? I was 17 when I graduated from high school.

BYU with their older athletes, and teams of nothing but foreign athletes... I wonder what the results would be if you had teams with US athletes of traditional college age?

Look at the median age of every olympic 5k/10k race. I'll go out on a limb and say that the median age is usually 25 years of age. Meaning that sometimes people are capable of making it to the olympics younger than 25, and sometimes some are still good above 25, but 25 is roughly the peak age of 5k/10k runners. Therefore a 21 year old is further from their likely peak than a 24 year old.

I'm going to quickly look at the top 20 times from 2021 in the 5k and 10k for the world on world athletics, since it shows their ages there. I'll let you know the median age for 5,000 and 10,000:

10,000 median age = 24.5 years of age

5,000 median age = 24.25 years of age

And further inspection shows that most of the runners in the older half of the top 20 are non-african runners, meaning for whatever reason African runners are able to reach levels that put them top in their countries younger, bug European and American countries it tends to be an older athlete who is the best, probably because we start developing our talent a little later in life. So even more evidence that a 24 year old NCAA Amecian athlete is probably going to be a lot better than a 20/21 year old American athlete.

how is what they do any different than a catholic worship service or muslim or any religion? cult shumult.. it's all just a way to take people's money and have power over them.

Also, constantly ripping on the BYU MEN for being older due to their 2-year missions is crazy. They are operating within the NCAA rules. Get over it.

I would say you were certainly on the young side. I turned 19 right after starting College. Everyone else i know turned 19 during Fr year. You remember things like that when the drinking age is 19.

So...as someone said multiple times, if she is a redshirt, +covid year, you could be 24. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 +covid. Im assuming she had a redshirt PLUS a covid year. If not, it seems like she should be 23. Meh, whatever, as long as you are in the rules, and went straight to college IMO.

Years ago i recall there being an age limit in college football? It came in to play when someone came back from the marines or navy or whatever and started a football career. Sounds like there is no age limit? How the heck is someone 26?

Your data proves that runners are fully mauture in their early twenties. You blew your own case. Africans are faster at younger age than Americans because they are not in college having to attend class and study and stay up late. Americans are better after college because that is when they go pro and have time to train. Watch what happens to times by people like Grant Fisher a year after college. It is not age that makes people better but the training that they do.

Do you bigots know how to use the internet? Her birthday is 10/22. She started her senior year in HS at 17. She graduated HS at 18 like everyone else. She started college at 18. She turned 19 on 10/22 of her freshman year in college. About 1 in 1000 kids start senior year in high school at 16 while 999 in 1000 start when 17 years old.

This is dumb; since when did we not consider college runners to be tough full grown men. This is not a middle school race. I think the OP is a joke. I don't even know a single person on the BYU team. The victories are well earned though.
