Except you are incorrect. Melinda Dotray has been arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter, two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of drug possession. Drug tests revealed amphetamine, meth and fentanyl in her system. She was estimated to be traveling at 62-64 mph with no signs of braking.

Does anybody in Minnesota have any idea what the current status of this case is? The defendant was arrested exactly one year ago and still no trial. It only took seven months from murder to trial for the OJ Simpson case. What is the holdup? It seems like a pretty straight forward DUI/vehicular homicide case that happen regularly.

There were numerous reasons for O.J.'s criminal defense attorneys to be confident. O.J. was not allowed to be released on bail. O.J.'s attorneys did not have motivation to delay.
Is the criminal defendant in this Vehicular Homicide case out on bail? If so, her or his criminal defense team have motivation to delay.
Criminal defendants held in jail awaiting trial have a right to Speedy Trial. Priority cases are cases in which the defendant is being held in jail.

I just checked on the status of the case out of curiosity and found this thread. Court docs from 12/19 looks like the defendant has not demanded a speedy trial, and the prosecutors assigned new attorneys to the case, had some time to review the case, and then found missing evidence and an unavailable witness. The court docs state the scheduled trial is scheduled to take place January 17 to late February or Mid-Late March, but the last case update was December 28 which was "returned mail." Not necessarily the news were hoping for, but there have been developments and a trial will take place.
Two years ago today the accident occurred. As far as I can see from a quick Google search, very little has happened since. I understand the wheels of justice can run slowly sometimes but she killed someone. This is not B&E or assault or theft; this is vehicular homicide. She should get at least 20 years. From my observances, drunk drivers who kill others usually get 20 years per person killed.

The driver then turned around and ran her over again, with the witness stating "there is no way she didn't see her. It looked very intentional." Horrifying.

Hitting her the first time may have been an “accident” (to the extent that driving on meth can be considered accidental I guess), but running over her the second time was premeditated. She hit her once accidentally and didn’t kill her. Then she willfully chose to turn around and run over her again, which she had several seconds to plan and consider.
Driver admitted she was high: her defense attorney said the 47 year old driver has no criminal history and “got sucked in by this poison.” Yeah an innocent person is dead. So let us not make it sound like the driver is a victim, other than she was apparently an addict.
