Yeah I agree. I think most of the field ran their absolute hardest, it's a super fast track and the setting of the Olympics makes you dig deeper than any diamond League.
Jakob will go faster, he looked comfortable. But Kerr was probably running close to his limit, so was the Kenyan and Hocker. They may well PB in the future but this race was definitely one to get the most out of an athlete, similar to London 2012 800m.
I think with Hocker, Kerr, Wightman and Cheruiyot, Jakob knew that he needed the race to be fast to get that gold. He was prepared to take the race beyond what anyone else could do that day and goad Cheruiyot into keeping the pace fast. Very smart running.
