Barry Bonds is the most flamboyant thing this side of Liberace, just in terms of dramatic transformation of body type. Yeah Barry, You never used/never INtentionally used steroids. He went from lean and fit, to this hulking, bloated behemoth. Also, he has a butterface now, where he didn't before. My vote goes to him as the most obvious doper ever. Ben Johnson is up there, too, as are the eastern block/Chinese teams.

I gotta say, though, some of these pictures would be funny if it weren't for the fact that those Eastern Block Nations forced their athletes into such programs. They're still kind of funny, though, because...well, just look at them. If Barry was single, he and one of those chicks could get together and give birth to a bouncing baby syringe.

Well, I was good friends with her coach before she moved to the states. Basically, she hated training... They would do 3 track sessions a week, usually short intervals and sprints, and nothing else in terms of running. Interestingly, she disliked doing weights too, so her gym sessions weren't all that frequent either....

This photograph proves that Johnson was doping, and furthermore that his best event was actually the 10K. I believe that this particular photograph was taken in Nairobi and documents a secret race between Johnson and an equally doped Paul Tergat (visible in the background). After the race was won by Johnson in 25 high, all assembled personages agreed that the world wasn't ready for such a spectacle, and the results of that race have been suppressed ever since.

No. That was taken within a second of the finish. That chappie is Samson Kitur, finishing 3rd in 44.54. He also holds the Kenyan record for running one lap of a standard track: 44.18, and that's in seconds. That time is the third fastest non-US performance for 400m, and he did it in Barcelona, '92, and not at altitude. I think that qualifies him as a sprinter.

The Kenyans who are not fast enough for the distances move diwn to the sprints. It is sort of the reverse of the US :)

If they're not fast enough for the distances, how are they going to manage at the sprints? Shirley you mean them wots Kenyans wot hasn't enough endurance for the distances, or conversely, them wot has too much speed for the distances. You know the type: wins the first 2 or 3 intervals in training, but then trails in in the last 2 or 3.
