+1 this. Love both Mclaughlin and Mu, but Molly came out of nowhere and it was amazing!
On the USA coverage the pack was 4 and Seidel was starting to fade ever so slightly. They cut to her family in Wisc and one of them (Mom?l looked like she was crying or really worried. They then cut to commercial, (way too many commercials in last 20 min) and when they came back the Israel runner had dropped. That was tenseful moments then to the finish! Way to go Molly!
McLaughlin was the world record holder coming into the Olympics. She crushed it. But where was Seidel ranked?. Not even close. She trained and raced to the conditions. Out of 14 women’s marathons, she’s the 3rd to win a medal. That’s f*cling epic!

Molly is white and Sydney is mixed! See how it's about Molly making whole wester world proud, how she stood against 3 Africans and how exciting it got when 1 African dropped.
Sydney is amazing and was the favorite (as, you know, WR holder?).
Molly was a nobody compared to the Italian 100m guy coming in.
Actually, I'll broaden on this for the question asked...
Seidel is a Jewish name that would be pronounced ZY-dull
But in the US, the second vowel gets the sound..
Hence, sy-DELL
But I pronounce it MED-uh-list.

She ran 130 mpw? Jesus
Because it works!!
And everyone on this message board accused Jacobs of doping but none of that for Molly. Reason: white American vs mixed-race Italian
Even better...a Seidel is a beer mug.
She said to drink a beer.
She's one of most connected medalists to the people.

Having said that, Molly Seidel looked like the fittest American female marathoner we've had...not based on appearance but the strength by which she persevered. There were no miles, including the end that she "washed over."

I hope you enjoy prom this year.
Deena Drossin got stung in the throat by a bee at World XC, fell over, and was still 12th or something. Won London. Ran 2:19. Still the best.

My wife, who isn’t really an athletics fan, cried at the finish when Molly started screaming in celebration. This run has mainstream pull, and that woman just became a superstar!
Yeah I know a lot of non-runners who know who Molly Seidel is.
To my way of thinking, no Olympic medal has the drama and the tension of the marathon. Your physical and mental capabilities are pushed to the limit.
Molly's medal is indeed very special.

It's a German name, and the Midwest/Upper Midwest is a German stronghold.

Yet another American with MF as their middle name.

F—k yeah! That was brilliant.
Molly Seidel's run was incredible.
My question to everyone is that she almost beat
a 2:14 marathoner. So what is her time really
at if you take out the heat, humidity, hot temperature
of the road, and competed in ideal conditions?
Maybe she is in 2:17 to 2:19 shape?
Keep it up Molly and space in plenty of rest to enjoy
this moment.
Congrads!!!!
The thread title says it all!
Who'd have thought???!!!!
Couldn't believe Salpeter hit the wall like that. Props to her as well despite that.
Come Fall, Molly is gonna make a mint in appearance fees.
Damn, I still wish Sara Hall had been in this race.

Sarah Hall is trash compared to Siedel. She wouldn't have done anything. Sisson, however, would have done well based on her 10k at the trials. She should have a good race in the 10k, but that event is stacked so she'll have a hard time getting a medal.
