I feel like our men’s is just burnt out at this point. Making the team and peaking at trials must’ve took its toll on our athletes. Take the performances from trials, and we’d have far more success at this point in the games…

plus once burrito gate happened, they all got scared and stopped their doping regimens and are paranoid they will busted as well (likely thought whatever shelby and them were taking wasnt testable).

Absolutely agree. Trials are too late and prevents our best chances from competong at Diamond leagues to recce the field and sharpen the saw.
Why don’t field events count exactly? You do understand to the general public events like the PV and SP are way more marketable than the 10000 (for example) right?
That said… Holloway sealed it for me. Worst showing for men ever. Would take a gold in the 400, a surprise gold in the 1500 and a medal in the marathon to change my opinion.
Pole Vault (and high jump) are attractive. But I seriously doubt that many people care for shot put unless their country is good in the event.

They do count, but I imagine there are massively more people doing 5k or 10ks than are doing shot put or PV recreationally. Just less relatable events for most of a nation's population.
All 3 events you mention have a good medal hope. I am still thinking EK, Cherono, Kitata for the marathon podium but Rupp has a solid possibility.
Can't see a gold in any above the 400m though. Bronze for Centro or Hocker.
Just so many favorites didn’t come through. Makes you wonder if it would have been a historic meet in 2020 (2019 was great). Also it does seem like athletes from other countries just come out of nowhere at the olympics that doesn’t happen at worlds and years later they get slapped with a doping ban. I would say that with some choking and some great performances from guys like Warholm and Degrasse and you end up with 0 golds on the track.

Add to that Centro and Bor not making the final (though they were not really favorites)
It really is a shame Rai Benjamin went up against one of the greatest performances in the history of the sport because he is the only man on the track who seems to come here with in the right physical and mental shape.

I think Okagbare's bust impacted Bromell. He may have cycled iff the same cocktail she was on. His performance fell off dramatically.
