He made that look too easy. Was pulling away from the field as he stepped off. Looks like he could crack a solid 600 right now.

They're peaking for the Olympics, which is not this week. Murphy will be just fine, I'd bet plenty $$ he makes the final.
Jostling at the W 1 mile start. Grace got shuffled to the back. No one going with the pacers??

Tapers are not magic. Tokyo 800 looking like they could be USA-less for the Final.
Nice race by Harris, and good for him to land the payday.
Hate to say it, but Hoppel looks like a shadow of his former self. If he was running like he was indoors he would've won this quite easily in 1:44 low at slowest. Murphy's semis and finals at USAs were excellent, but the rest of his 800 results before and after have been mediocre. Just got to hope he's training through to some degree.

So is the competition.
And the competition are already running 1:43s and 1:44s competing to WIN, not 1:45s to get crushed, lol.
Let's revisit your little bet in 17 days, lolol.
Pacesetter to run a 4:27 mile, yep this is Diamond League England all right
Why do they get two of these a year is the question.

Hoppel and Murphy 5th and 6th in 1:45.4/1:45.7.
Beaten by good but second-tier global names: Harris, Bol, Kinyamal, De Arriba.
Terrible. Hoppel got out fast and had nothing at the finish. Murphy "was nowhere to be seen" according to the commentator.
The wrong people are on the team.
These US guys won't even get out of prelims, let alone semis at the Olympics if they run like this.
USAFT should take top two at trials and make the third spot discretionary.
So you would take Harris over Hoppel? Brazier has a broken/fractured foot so he is not an option.

I guess no one really wants to run fast. Why just set up the race for the best kicker in the field?
Kate grace dropping them like a sack of sh!t.

He paced the mile already so he's definitely fit.
The "no American 800m men will final!" cries seem a little overreactionary to me. 800m rounds are a gauntlet but I don't see us getting shut out of the finals.

Yes. Harris on, Hoppel off.
The datapoints were all there in June, and today you are seeing the results in head-to-head racing.
The better runner is not on the team.
never seen the belly flop maneuver in the javelin. also hilarious that they just started yelling here on the final throws. yaaaaaaarrgh!!!
This meet is so boring.
Hoppel I have no hope for. Murphys win at the USA trials is probably still 800 performance of the year so I'm not counting him out just yet.
Probably off topic but watching these relays makes me really wish World Athletics should add the 4x800m to the World Championships and the Olympic Games. The pool of athletes would be the athletes set to already race at the games, (i.e. the 400-5km runners)

Which data points? From what I can tell, Hoppel was 3-0 against Harris this year until today's meet.
- USATF Golden Games
- Olympic Trials Semi
- Olympic Trials Final
The ADG 4x100m anchor was legit. He was moving.
at this rate i wouldnt be surprised if jewett was the most likely US 800 runner to medal. Hoppel is in terrible form and really hasnt had a great race all year. still trying to figure out what murphy is doing with all this racing, but he has a good record of performing when it counts despite poor results in other meets so i still think he has a decent shot. the 800m is such a toss up tho
