with this logic, Fisher should be DQ'd for impeding Kincaid. Okay? Also Fisher wasn't forced to do anything. He went outside of Chelimo because he thought he was faster than him. He wasn't, and could never pass (inside or outside).

Not typically a fan of the Brojos however the rules posted do not either seem to have been violated or provide a remedy.

Fisher never gets within a stride of Chelimo so Chelimo is entitled to the space.

Doesn't "Direct Line" mean the shortest distance between the spot in which you entered the straightway and the finish line? In other words, if you are on the inside of lane 2 as you enter the final straightaway, you are required to stay in the inside of lane 2 all the way to the finish line, unless you come upon another runner directly ahead of you and need to pass them. Now, slight drifts in an out of that direct line aren't cause for a DQ. However, if you purposely move 3 lanes over and off your "direct line" to the finish, not only causing you and the other runners to run extra distance (wh/ you never want to do in a race), but also obstructing the other runners from getting to the finish first, that seems as blatant a violation of the Rule as one could think of. Besides, isn't the whole point of this sport to get to the finish line first based on your foot speed? This isn't rugby.

He drift out and kept drifting out. He didn't then swerve back inside and cut someone off. Technically not a "direct line" as I'm sure it wasn't a perfect tangent but if they DQ him for this everyone who drifted into lane 2 should be DQd as well.

This is big boy racing and it's allowed by WA rules.

Chelimo can be the biggest azz on the track. That doesn't mean he should be dq'd for a non-violation of the rules.

It came off that way to me too. Track needs more brash runners like that; other sports take it for granted that a star might get upset at being fouled, that rivalries can emerge. Part of the drama. Chelimo definitely intimidated them and they all deferred to his frustrated gesturing.

As for the wide finish- either Kincaid and Fischer were still too intimidated to call Chelimo out to his face, or they respected that they just got Kemboi’d by a boss.

Chelimo is an entertainer. He has his theatrics and plays mind-games. It worked, as you could see Woody who should’ve been right on him with 600m to go was further back. Can’t help but think the finger wag, trash talk and uneven pacing were part of him shaking Woody.

You've got to be kidding me. So someone running down the finish straight with no one within 10m of he or she should be dq'd if they decide to run across the track?

The rules do not say you can be dq'd for failing to run a straight line. The rules say you can be dq'd for impeding another runner. Chelimo did not impede Fisher or Kincaid because they did not get close enough for him to do so.

No one seems to be pointing out the obvious, which is that Chelimo had to run more distance too.

There’s always positioning antics in the final straight of a sit-and-kick distance race. Chelimo’s was pretty blatant, but he’d clearly felt the rest of the field was just as choppy.

It’s tough to whine about being moved away from the rail when you have two teammates going down the straight together. They could have worked together.

Some people on LRC would sooner see half the field DQ’d in every distance race than suck up and accept that there’s a physical dimension to the sport.

But how is it different than what we see in every single race? In vritually every single distance race the winner wins in lane 2. Technically they should say in lane 1 and they are never DQd. Chelimo is world class. Fisher and Kincaid are national class. Maybe they will amke the jump but they havent yet.

If Fisher would have run a straight line to the finish he and Chelimo would have tripped each other because Chelimo was moving across Grant's path and there was no room to do so. The only reason Grant didn't break stride is because he continued to move out as Chelimo moves out. They definitely trip if Grant holds his line. The problem with that is Grant would have likely gone down and not qualified. By allowing Chelimo to force him out he stayed on his feet and guaranteed a top 3 finish.

Chelimo should be DQd for sure. He impedes Grant and is setting a terrible example for younger runners who might think that is a legitimate race strategy. It is not. Unfortunately there are many here on the board that think it is OK. They are wrong. It is illegal as has been pointed out in the rules. He needs to be disqualified to set an example.

So you believe that it would be OK for him to have forced them to run into the stands? Fisher had nowhere to go except further out. The only way he could have got inside was if he slowed down. If he maintains his line, they trip. That is clearly impeding.

If there was room for chelimo to move in front without Grant having to move or slow down, that would be different. But Grant was beside Paul and they would have tripped if Grant didn't move.
