She's not far and away better than the quarter-milers I mentioned above (especially Irby, Hayes and Felix), all of whom can beat Mu on the day.
And frontrunning Ajee and fast closing Rogers won't make this a cake walk either.
Mu is phenomenal, but let's not downplay her competition please.
Mu has already run 4:16 for 1500. If she were to train more conventionally as a mile would she'd run under 4:10. With that range combined with her speed the 800 is the sweet spot.

All she needs is to sit and kick through the heats for 1:59, the same but in 1:58 at the semis and then have some Ethiopian pace her to 1:55 PB.
That's where I ask myself how well she can run in a pack / not solo. If she can handle that well, gold is locked. I guess we will see at the trials.
A DL would be far more informative, especially as there are big question marks as to how fit Ajee Wilson is. Right now US has 12th, 14th and 15th in the world other than Mu.
She only has 3 chances between the trials and Tokyo as there isn't an 800 at the final one at Gateshead, so its Oslo/Stockholm/Monaco.

I just don't see a world where a the fastest 800 runner with the fastest 200/400 speed doesn't easily qualify. It's a hard event but she's so far and away the most talented runner in the field, she could run in lane 3 for most of it and still advance.
(Also, I should admit that part of my thinking is based on the fact that I don't trust the fitness of any of the other top 800 US women right now.)
