Japanese have right now, at least 5 marathoners that can beat Rupp. If you understood Japanese culture you would know they are going all out to make a world statement on the home soil. The US plays it cheap until a few months before the Olympics, then goes back to playing it cheap when they're over. They worry more about qualifying times than actually being competitive.

0 japanese runners have beaten rupp in any race of importance. Olympic marathons? Rupp skunked them. Boston marathon? Skunked them. Rome half marathon? Skunked them. Olympic 10k in london? Where were those 5 japanese runners then?

Who beat who in the recent half marathon in Eugene, a race distance which is closer to what Rupp is targeting right now?

You don't prepare for a hard close at a marathon. Rupp will train for maximum fitness on the day of the Olympic marathon and the pace will dictate how strong of a finish he will have. If he tries to cover a hard surge by Kipchoge near the end of the race, his last mile could easily be north of 5:00.

You're kinda saying the same thing with different words. Absolutely racing a 10k on tired legs is training to be at maximum fitness, so he can be there at the end in the Olympics. And WE KNOW 100% that there will be a pickup of pace in the last 10k, and his legs might need to be able to hit a 29 flat 10k at the end. This will simulate something like that without racing 42.2.

Obviously if Tokyo is a 204 race it isn't going to matter for Rupp, he likely won't be there. But if it's a 208 race until the last 10k, well then, this will help. Even if it's a confidence thing more than physiologica.

I mean I'm a huge Rupp fan, but you either on purpose or ignorantly forgot about Rupps very own marathon PR where he got beat by...Osako himself. So I would have to say Osako is simply faster than Rupp right now. Beat him in this race, beat him in Rupps own PR race, which of course means Osako has a faster PR too.

Wrong. Between Rupp and Osakboo, who has the better 10k PR?

If he is in 28:00 shape, 2:08 pace will feel very fast to him and if he is still in contact, he will be scorched over the last 10K.

To have a chance of winning a medal, he needs to be in at least 27:20 shape.

Rupps performance is no surprise to me. He doesn't care about this "race." It is just another training run for him. He's done this before in marathon training. No surprise if you're paying attention. He is in great marathon shape. He doesn't care about a 10k. And lastly, I predicted his exact time and people called me stupid. But I'm used to it, I have idiots calling me an idiot all the time because I don't think (small minded) like them.

Interesting that he did this 10k in victory spikes. Super aggressive structure and lots of strain on the achilles for 25 laps.

Ya know, while visiting this website for the last 15+ years, I've realized that:

To all the Rupp haters: do you know how many times you have claimed from the rooftops "Rupp is done!"?

Do you know how many times you have shrieked with joy when Rupp showed the slightest bit of weakness?

Remember what happened with that infamous Rupp Solinsky 10k? Do you remember how many "Rupp is done" threads there were then?

Sure, as an elite, competitive athlete, Rupp lost that one. Fair and square. But thats competition. Win some, lose some. At least he stuck his neck out and competed, not afraid to race for everyone to see...(unlike a handful of other runners who I wont mention who sit in the shadows and cower from competition).

Where is Solinsky now? Where is Withrow now? How about Josh Mcdougal?

Those are three perfect examples of people who were of similar fitness to Rupp, who beat Rupp maybe once, maybe twice who have gone on to do nothing.

And now we have Sugaru. He is not any different. A flash in the pan.

Rupp has surpassed those aforementioned one-hit wonders. He has even surpassed Sugaru if both were to quit today and we analyzed their results over all races.

Sugaru cannot win. He wont win the Olympics because the possibility of choking under pressure is looming.
