Newbury Park 5x3200 meter 8:54.02 team average is the national record. No prep team has ever average faster for five high schoolers on 1-team... and it looks to go down farther if not this year but in the years to come.

Newbury Park has established themselves as perhaps, the Greatest Prep boys distance PROGRAM in terms of "performance" in US history. IF you thought Nico was GREAT... LEX!

This is unfrickinbelievable. Absolutely destroys any other team we’ve seen in recent years… and 3 are F’n sophomores?! Unreal.

The Youngs and Sahlmans definitely came from outside of Newbury Park's zone, but they weren't recruited by Brosnan. Instead, it seems like they transferred because NPHS is academically a much stronger school than the high school they were originally slated to go to.

From this article, it seems like the first time Brosnan had any sort of interaction with Nico was at his first day at practice:

He took his incoming freshmen on “an easy run” to get to know them and observe their running styles. “Nico was shorter, very small,” Brosnan said. “I looked up their times for youth and there was nothing too impressive.”

The Sahlmans went there because NPHS is academically a better school. That’s a good one!

And then Nico chose the worst school to make the NCAA meet this year. Not too consistent for a smart kid.

Colin Sahlman is a junior, not a sophomore as listed here. He does have a sophomore brother Aaron Sahlman who ran a 4:14 mile last weekend. Still insane.

Aaron, the Soph won the invitational mile, in 4:14. He split roughly 2:14 and came back in 2:00.

Coach said after the meet he will probably run the 800 the rest of the thinking he can run 1:51ish.

Put him in the 3200 and you have 5 under 9i minutes, No question

They still got next year to come back and get 5 under 9. They return Colin/Aaron Sahlman, Lex/Leo Young, and Appleford.

And they will all head to NAU because academics is number 1 on their list. That is why they chose NP.

As someone from far outside California... their girls don't seem to be near the same level as their guys team this spring. Any particular reason why this would be so?

Because the girls on the team aren’t as good. No impact transfers and not as many talented girls that have come in.

What happened to Newbury Park’s senior Christian Simone?

No results from him since February. He could have went sub 9 too.

Do you happen to go to Stuyvesant High School in New York City?

How tall is he? He looks shorter than other American-born runners

Hailey Golmon transferred in in 2019, and scored and helped them make NXN (they got an at-large bid)

Lexi Darley transferred in in 2021, scored for them, and helped them place 9th at RunningLane

Golmon is the 6th runner for UCLA here
