I have purposely avoided wanting this to be about me. OK maybe he is not a doper but the point of the thread sailed above your head. What I have done athletically is likely superior to anyone posting in this thread BUT please do not make this about me. My point stands and left you bewildered and replying with a silly point about the septuagenarian 400m world best.

Former full scholarship athlete, competed at nationals in college and had some good times post collegiate. I agree with this. My grinning bow is 2-5 mile runs for exercise with mountain biking thrown in for fun. Haven’t run a race since my last Marathon attempting to make the trials.

(Though I did try to break 36 at 36 at a local 10k a decade ago).

This thread is some good trolling. I'm 48 and truly don't care what younger people think. I still manage to finish in the top 5% of races I do. This isn't embarrassing for me but the 95% of younger people I pass. I'll see high school female runners who can't pass me in a 5k or 10k. That's just sad. How bad are you if you are a high school athlete who trains and can't beat a geezer 30 years older? I pass a lot of gym bros in their 20s who have no speed. I don't train seriously either. I'm just a hobby jogger who kept it going. I respect the young fast guys but 95% of the field is just sad. There's no reason an old casual runner should beat all these young people.

Running very seriously is useful if it helps get you into college with a scholarship. After that, it is a waste of time that devotes your attention away from other more meaningful life goals. It also isn't good for your health. If you are an extremely talented runner its even worse. It night tempt you into a low paying career of professional running.

Serious training for competing running is not good at any age.

Keep it at a recreational level done for health and fun.

No. I don't take meds. AND, as long as you and your friends post with reckless abandon here, you are not guaranteed the safety nor security for the drivel you post. You post and get what cards dealt you get. You don't get Carte Blanche.

Ha you have it exactly backwards my friend. People in their 20s and 30s who "take running seriously" can look pathetic because they are not focused on building a career and family. Start in your 40s or even 50s after the foundation has been laid. I am still competing at 65, and love every bit of it.

This sounds like someone who is tired of getting beat at local 5k’s or maybe got knocked off the leaderboard of a virtual run. Train hard and run fast and you won’t care what old people are doing.

I am extremely disappointed in you, LRC. I mean, it's cool that he got under everyone's skin and all, but a good troll does not create any more than 2-3% of the posts in any thread. There is nothing sadder than a young adult who was a running star in high school as a young adult still putting all his emotional and physical investment in the dead end sport running. There is no future in it. If only they devoted all that effort to something that would enhance their career or even family life.

For an older retired guy, it really doesn't matter.
