Was there a big headwind coming into the homestretch? EVERYONES last 200m was much slower than the 200 on the backstretch

Just let him develop without the pressure from the outside. He seems very down to
Earth and mature for his young age. It will be cool to see him develop over the coming years

Some people here need some neutral glasses!
Jakob ran the DL London 2019 5000m in around 2:36.5 per km with a last round in 53.
Hobbs ran a 2 mile in around 2:41 per km with a last round in 55 BUT STILL HAVE THE FASTESTS WHEELS?!

By the way: I am (almost) as excited as many Americans on these pages about Hobbs (and also about Teare , Young and Hocker) looking forward to see them progress in the coming years.
But somebody (not me) on this thread proposed to compare with Jakob. And at the moment all these American youngsters have some ground to cover which is quite understandable since Jakob has trained seriously (I won´t say professionally) from a very young age.
Time will tell if one or more of the 4 mentioned runners will reach Jakob´s level (top 10 all time in 1500m, 2000m and 3000m and with potential to go into top 10 at least in the 5000m and mile as well)
No one needs glasses. It’s you’re seeing it through your lense, we are seeing it through our lense.
When Jakob ran that last 400, Hobbs was basically a couch potato. He was primarily a rock climber in 2019 - and now two years later - we are having this discussion.
Again, you can’t compare someone’s kick in a race where they lost to a someone’s kick in a race where they won by 70m. If Hobbs had run 55.0 and lost this race, then we would have no point. But considering how smooth he looked running from the front in his first effort, plus the workout that he finished in 50.4.
He ran 10 XC races in 2017 and ran as fast 17:42. This kid has run as full of a high school XC and track career as any other runner.

17:42 is quite good for a freshman. Not elite but anyone doing that is likely to progress to D1 opportunities. Many people running that time as a freshman run 16:50 sophomore, 16:20 junior, and 15:50 as a senior - on relatively low mileage like 30-40 mpw. He was always good.
Hobbs had plenty of racing except he didn't really race indoors until this last season, only ran 30 miles per week, and didn't train much in the summers or off season as he was rock climbing. He is quite undertrained relative to other elite runners - which is why he is improving rapidly from good to elite.
He's no Jakob I yet, but those comparisons and expectations are dumb. Just let the kid develop and enjoy watching him race. If he doesn't reach those levels or instead decides to rock climb out of a subaru, who cares!

2 years ago today Hobbs was a 5 min miler just starting to run.
2 years ago today Jakob had been training like a professional for 20 years.
That is a lie about Hobbs. "Just starting to run." His dad was the high school coach. His mother ran in the Olympic Trials. Let's stop acting like he'd never run before.
