Hardly 'Mr Personality'
Hardly 'Mr Personality'
Haha okay I'll rephrase.
A) He's in 13:30 shape and ready to absolutely shatter Galen Rupp's 5k High School Record.
B) He's training way too hard.
C) He's lying.
Even if he's in 13:30 shape (which he obviously is not), he's doing a workout here starting at a very ambitious goal 5k pace, and getting down to almost 100% of his actual mile pace. Again, even if we assume he's in 3:57 mile shape, he's only running 2 seconds per lap slower, on his own, in the pitch dark at the end of a workout - it's basically maximum effort. He then follows this up with 3 flat out 400s - it's a stupid session.
Also, someone said that he stated it was a 'mile prep' session as he's racing one soon. This is hardly a sharpener for a mile, it's a flat out, leave everything on the track and suffer from it for the next few weeks - type workout, so if he is coached by Tinman it would seem his philosophy has drastically swung from one extreme to the other.
I still think he's lying about the times though.

Why is he obviously not in 13:30 shape? He ran faster in the mile as a sophomore than rupp did as a senior. I could easily see that sort of progression given how young he is. I guess we will find out!
shoes
This kid makes 4:10 pace seem so easy.
Stud.
Shoes can't take off ten in the mile....
I don’t think Rupps 5k record will be touchable for a long time

If these times are accurate, its in jeopardy right now.

Like literally, he probably could have run 13:30 with a bike pacer in the dark in Florida...
I think that was the Adidas contract
this guy is in sub 4 shape by the workouts, yes this was long rest but is it really that uncommon to run 17 and 13 seconds off your pr from 6 months ago in a workout? I don't think so. If I ran 4:30 I would feel like a 4:50 would be hard but controlled and not impossible especially if I am in better shape than what I was when I ran my old PR. It's obviously not fake, you can hear the coach yelling the times out as he crosses and on the last rep he goes "3:10 You're on pace go!" He said that 15m into the last rep, you guys are all just dumb. Go for a run and quit bashing on a high schooler. He has no desire to lie, he seems like a really humble and normal teenager. I feel like you guys think just because he is fast doesn't mean he can't be normal...
Someone please tell this kid to go to Oregon and not NAU. We don't need him slogging around in XC meets get this kid with Ben Thomas and he's winning 5+ individual NCAA titles.

See, I don't know. This is certainly a possibility, he doesn't actually post the footage of him running the miles just the first few steps and I know people will do strange things for internet clout. Very sus.
He did say he took super long rests in between each rep, like 7+ minutes so I guess this could make it more believable. And Centro posted a similar 3xmile post-race workout where he ran 3:57 in his last rep so these types of performances are definitely possible.
I’m gonna be honest, I looked at the video again and I think the track is short. Could be 350 meters or something like that. Maybe it’s just the darkness playing with the camera or my eyes. Would explain why the times are so fast and why he’s not that tired.
I find it hard to believe a high schooler junior can run 3x400 at 800 pace after 3 hard miles and not be that tired.

There could be something to this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIMuWCqgTRkJust as a point of reference Nico Young did a somewhat similar workout to this - 2 x (1600 + 800), which is the same volume but with one of the miles broken into 800's, so it should be slightly easier. Young's times ended up in 4:10/2:07/4:16/2:06, which is average 4:12/mile pace, while Harrison averaged 4:13/mile in the harder workout. Not only did Harrison average basically the same times in a harder workout, he also ripped 3 x 400 in 54 while barely breathing hard (meanwhile Young looked like he was struggling) which is even more insane. I'm sorry but for Harrison to run one of those sessions seems extremely impressive, but to put them together in the same session without much effort seems extremely unlikely, but anything is possible I suppose.
Either Harrison is going to run Nico Young-level times, or this workout was exaggerated/embellished upon. We will definitely see as the season progresses.
Young could've gotten it with a better pace job or more comp last year imo
I mean, I’ve had one of those days where you’re just crushing a workout, but let’s be generous and say this guy is in 3:55 shape (235 seconds). He runs a 3x1600 in 4:18,4:14,4:07, (258, 254,247 seconds). That’s 1.1, 1.08,1.05 times his mile shape.
For a 4:40 guy, which I think is fair to say is a somewhat competitive but by all means decently average high schooler, that’s running 5:08,5:02,4:54 and then following it up with 3x400 at your 800 pace. Looking at it this way makes it seem a little more realistic, it’s basically 3x mile averaging 3200 pace, but the extrapolation factor makes slower race times a little easier anyways. I don’t think this kid is in 8:26 shape right now, but who knows....very odd

Well I mean apart from the obvious fact that it's the HS Record by almost 1 full second per lap, and this guy is essentially a nobody up until people started talking about this workout.
He has been in recent Tinman Elite workout videos hanging off the back or doing slightly less volume than everyone else, now you think he's basically better than all of them based on this one hero workout.
The more I think about it the more I think he's lying about the times. But aside from that, can we just appreciate what a terrible session this is. Like which coach in their right mind would set 3 x 1 mile at faster than 3k pace, then 3 x 400 at faster than 800 pace?! It is literally insane.

4:01 as a sophomore is a nobody?!

WTF are you talking about. Any worth your post may have had has literally disappeared when you called the sophomore class mile record holder "essentially a nobody".
