I'll cut to the chase...whenever a record is set, USATF can and often does elect to send in an independent person (not the original measurer) to confirm that the course is as long as it's supposed to be. In this case we're talking about Eddy's pending masters record set on a certified course. The person that USATF sends in to confirm the course is long enough is called a 'validator'. The validator does not recertify the course. He/she simply confirms that the course as run on race day was the nominal distance, in this case, 10 miles.

So, you are correct that the course doesn't need to be certified because it already is. However, now that a record has been set, the validator will go in to see if the certified course as run on race day was at least 10 miles.

Course certification lapses after ten years. The current PJ course was certified in 2002. If they continue using the same course, they'll have to fill out a renewal app to continue the certification. If the course changes in any way, it'll have to apply for new certification. In terms of requirements, that is the only one PJ has to adhere to.

What I'm right about are the facts above.

I simply wanted to say thanks to all the athletes who were at Papa Johns this weekend. My internship, and the entire experience were a huge success and it was solely based on you the athletes and my intern coordinator. It was amazing to me how passionate each one of you are about the sport, and the competitors you were racing with. It truly motivated me to get out and do my best work. I thank you all for the opportunity of a lifetime, and I hope to see all of you on the run somewhere soon. Congrats on such a great race, and thank you for making my hometown shine!

No, I said USATF will VALIDATE the course for accuracy.

For the purposes of illustration, imagine I were the one asked to perform the validation. That scenario is possible. Now, that wouldn't be very much bullshit, would it?
